If I can't transfer to another school before the end of my contract in May.............
How do you go about getting the end of contract flight home?
Should I reserve it now to be safe?
Should I purchase it and then tell the school, or ask them first?
Do they refund it before I go, or pay me in cash? How does it work?
I'm with GEPIK. And pay should be on the last day, right?!! |

Ask your school how they'll take care of the flight. Some schools will purchase the ticket themselves, others will make you buy it and show proof of purchase so they can reimburse you. I wouldn't recommend buying the ticket first, since they might refuse to pay you the full fare if they think it's too expensive.
Make sure to get your 900,000won deposit before you leave. |

ask your co-teacher what the school wants you to do: buy it yourself and get reimbursed, they buy it, or they just give you the money to buy it. |

Thanks. I bought my ticket during my renewal last year and gave them the receipt, they reimbursed me after that.
Do I get the 900,000 won on the last day, with severance? |

It still amazes me that people won't ask their schools questions and choose to come to Dave's instead. |

I hope you can handle scummy rough as *beep* England. Try and keep your head clean and avoid the prostitutes, drug dealers and muggers on every street corner. Be careful of the BNP thugs that are obviously out for you. Most of all be sure to post any questions you have about England on the Dave's ESL England forum.

waziristan, weren't you just recently talking about renewing at the same school for several years ahead as your previous co teacher left and things were going swimmingly?
did something come crumbling down?
btw.. I think you last paycheck still occurs on "regular" payday.. hence if for e.g. your contract expires before payday that month, you still have to wait until payday. |

I won't be back in England for long.
I will check with my co-teacher, her English is quite limited. |

My Principal wanted a new teacher.
My contract ends on May 13th, I believe everything should be paid then. I am going to find this all out. |

FromtheUk, how about being my Guinea pig?
You are going to leave your school, go home for a few weeks and come back right?
Regarding airfare, school A will pay for a one-way ticket to the UK, and school B will pay for a 1 way ticket back to Korea. As I'm sure you are aware, a 1 way ticket can cost between 70-90% of return ticket.
So... Buy a return ticket (Icn-LHR-Icn) AND buy a 1 way ticket home. Show the school the receipt for the 1 way ticket...get paid and cancel.
On the way back, buy a 1 way ticket, keep the receipt and cancel. Show the school the receipt (You can even book the 1 way ticket on the same flight as your return ticket, so you will have boarding passes if the school is overly diligent )
This costs the schools NOTHING and can pocket you in the region of 1 mill, depending on the costs of the flights. Let me know how this pans out |

Hey fromtheuk, I'm thinking about going over on the GEPIK program either in the May or September intake. I was looking for some firsthand info before I commit. How was the gepik program? Were you happy with your teaching and living situation?? Any red flags? Any tips? Anything would be appreciated, thanks. |

I'd recommend GEPIK. I'm sticking with them, just changing school. The only downside is if your co-teacher is nasty. I like GEPIK overall. The areas they cover are near Seoul, which I like. |
