Next time, a lot more MLB teams will not release their players (other than minor leaguers.
Instead of spring training, some players didnt get enough reps while sitting on the bench. In some instances pitchers are now arriving in camp looking bad with only a week left till opening day. |

Oh yeah? You wouldn't notice it from the increase in ticket sales and game attendance over the past few years. The game is becoming more and more popular in the US despite all the things you've mentioned.

I was in Krea in 2006. When the WCB was on the Koreans were interested, but it was very low key.
When the football World Cup was on later in the year it was mental! The kids were all dressed in GoKorea shirts, thousands of people watched the games on big screens. After the win over Togo there was a massive street party where I was in Changwon
Baseball will never be a global game! |

According to Bud Selig that won't be happening. WBC will be back in 2013. GM's won't have the power to prevent players from going if they choose. |

I agree. I was here during the aftermath of the world cup craze of 2002. People were still actually going to the K league games. "Oh you should watch Korean soccer it is so good!" I actually told them that I had been to many Korean baseball games and that they were probably better at baseball. They didn't quite believe me. |

There were quite a few players coming back injured, not enough work or overworked.
Not many of the stars will want to go through that again. THe only player that Ive read that enjoyed it was Wright. But I doubt he'll do it again next year.
The teams will be full of fringe players. |

What players said that they didn't like it? Jones said he didn't care for the format but still loved playing for team USA. The other players talked about the pride they had playing for their country.
It will be back in 2013 stronger than ever. |

First off, institute a Salary Cap.
2nd, Reduce the number of games.

I only saw part of the game, but the students in one of my classes wanted to watch it and they were really into it. Sure it was Korea vs. Japan, but how is that different from the Yankees vs. the Red Sox? It sounds like it was a really good game.
It's better to see these two countries having it out on a baseball diamond than the absurdity of arguing over Dokdo or something. International sports should, in the end, help promote friendship and understanding. I suspect the players for the two teams left with respect for each other.
If Korea wants to promote baseball, they need more baseball/softball diamonds, ideally one at each middle and high school. In America, there are diamonds in every little town, and of course, the Little League. I don't see kids here getting enough exercise or having enough parks and places to just play.
At one small school where I worked the phys ed teacher introduced baseball, and the kids picked it up in no time. I was pretty surprised at how good they were after just a few weeks.
Sure, soccer is great exercise. But it is a sort of ADHD sport, requiring a lot of hyperactivity. Baseball requires concentration, even when nothing is happening, when you are standing still. I think it would help build character in these kids. And if a Korean team is good enough to beat an American team, well, good for them. |

Totally agree about the shortage of parks. There is a terrible shortage of baseball diamonds here in Daegu. They are building more this year, but not nearly enough to satisfy the demand. |

OP -
The reason that the U.S. team lost to Puerto Rico probably has more to do with the fact that the U.S. team has very few standout players. The roster of MLB players that played in the WBC shows that there were only a handful of players that played for the U.S., with the rest of them going to their home countries to play for them instead.
