This question has probably been asked a million times but I have my partner coming to stay for two night next week and we need somewhere to stay in Seoul thats quite cheap. I wondered how to go about staying at a love motel; do you book? Where are they best? What is the korean word you tell a taxi driver?

Go to Sinchon Station and head to the area around the old Sinchon train station. You can go out exit 2, walk down a few hundred meters and turn left. Street signs still say "Sinchon Station" and turn left there. I can't recommend one personally, but there are quite a few of them.

Hotel Ben Hur in Yeoido. Cheap, amazing amenities, nice staff. There's even a steamroom in every bathroom!

Generally, love motels cost around 40,000 to 60,000 won. They often want you out by noon and some don't want to give you a room until the evening. The room rates can change depending on the day of the week, and sometimes by when you check in. You don't make reservations.

At Jongno 3 ga there are a lot. Go out the same side as Tapgol Park, exit 2 (I think). Turn right at Skin Food. There are many on the side streets from that street.

There are Love Hotels and there are Love Hotels.........the amazing ones with huge jacuzzi baths and 50'' TV's (plus lots more cool stuff!!) start at around 70-80,000.

The Lexy near Yeoksam Station is a good example.t

Love motels are the best thing about Korea. In my job before, I used to move around the country a lot. I hated staying on base, so we would just pick the most expensive one in town and stay there. I think the most I ever paid was 80,000. (We didn't use them in Seoul.)

I have a question about hotels in general. My family is visiting soon, and I need to find some accomodation. I'm looking for something in Ansan... although something in either Suwon or Siheung wouldn't be bad. I don't want to be cheap, but I don't want to spend 200,000 per night either. I'd say I'm looking to spend between 80,000 to 120,000 per day. Obviously I wouldn't mind spending less if the quality was still good.

I mentioned to my mom that I might find a love motel for her, and she responded with 'uh... ummm...' I pointed out that they're used by Koreans who are traveling around the country all the time, but she still wasn't too thrilled with the idea. I mentioned to her that perhaps I will take the motel and she can have the apartment.

Still, my knowledge about hotels in general is pretty lacking. My understanding is that there are only two types of hotels in Korea... really expensive hotels and love motels. Is that true? Are there large numbers of nice hotels outside of Seoul?

I'd rather not get a really seedy place. I see lots of love motels around, but how can I tell the difference?

First, don't tell your mom that you're finding her a love motel. Just tell her it's a Korean-style motel. Your family will probably be impressed with al lthe features they get for such a low price. They might be slightly scandalized by the condoms, though

To tell if it's seedy or not, go in and look around. If there isn't a sex-toy vending machine, you're fine. I've never been in one that is really seedy. They're usually clean and convenient. Some are a little dim.

Or, you can hang around outside and see how long people come in and stay for. If too many stay for an hour or less - seedy.
