Take it easy on artists like my friend Jjang Nara.
Being a former TV Producer does have its advantages with connections here in Korea. |

K-pop is all counterfeit, recycled shit. Why is it that every singer must have a dance routine to accompany their songs? When I go back home I will kneel and embrace my CD collection while I weep like a child who has been reunited with his mother after been seperated for many moons. I can't wait to hear real, heart felt, ecclectic Canadian music (ie. Hayden -- the greatest artist of the millenium). |

Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguleria, n*sync, Redman, les Ketchup, Limp Bizkit, Eminem, Nelly, anything on BET, Our Lady Peace, not recycled *beep*?

korean music is really great in that everyone accepts it for what it is. you don't gotta think about it, or discuss its merits.
its catchy, its easy to follow along to.
no one cares whether Wax actually writes her own songs, or if 1TYM is a hip hop group or a pop group. they just are :/ |

Korean pop music makes me want to stick my head in the microwave. It all sounds so horribly manufactured, like it was generated in some sort of factory or written according to some computer program. In the ballads, there is no sense of subtlety, just a relentless gush of emotion. It's like being stuck in an emotional washing machine. The words "sarang-hae" are repeated over and over like a mantra.
The techno-rap is even worse. All Korean pop music that I've heard is just a recycling of music that was recycled to begin with. Which is a shame because I really like the traditional music. I think they had something really good and primal, and with the fading-away of shamanism, it all went down the drain. I do want to discover some bands (in the true sense of the word) that play interesting music, I've ehard good stuff about Crying Nut. |

Juarim is kind of SKA-esque. What I've heard of their music is really good.
I'm sure others can tell you more... |

Well like I said up above somewhere, do not think that all that you see on korean music tv is all the music that exists in Korea. Get off your *beep* and go and find some decent Korean music.
It is indicative of foreigners here that they bitch about something without looking beneath the surface. You show yourself up for what you are. A lazy punk.
If you watched North American MTV 24/7 what would you make of Western music? Thats right, stale turgid crap. Wake up.
How many 'a perfect circle' videos would you see? or 'at the drive in', or 'tool', or etc etc?
and to the dude that is running home to embrace his/her Canadian music collection, why didn't you take it to Korea if you are that hungup on Korean music?
shortsighted.

question:
is there a reason why anyone who ever talks about "real" music must always bring up tool? |

I love to see these Korean "Punk Rock" bands. What a joke. I saw an article in an eglish language newspaper over the summer about punk rock in Korea. The number one reason for kids digging punk was the style of the clothes, they loved the idea of wearing leather jackets, dying their hair with crazy colors, spiking it up and getting things pierced.
All I can say is thank god for the availablity of streaming songs on sites like epitaph.com and victoryrecords.com, I get my fill and freak out most of my fellow patrons at the PC bung. |

Punk: Yeah, there's a real cutting-edge, meaningful style that's not based on image or anything. |
