My school has a weekly English quiz wherein the other FT and I read 5 clues. The kids write down the answers and drop them off at the English library. 3 winners are chosen and they get cheap pens. I am proofreading the 100 quizzes. Verbatim:

Q57. Who am I?

1. I don't understand why do people call me another Satan.
2. I tried to build the Garden of Eden on the earth.
3. I had to pluck the weed out of the garden.
4. The Jew was the weed.
5. I sent millions of Jews to the gas rooms.

Answer: Hitler.

Well, I guess it may explain a past event of mine. I was a substitute for an elementary teacher and as soon as I walked in the room, a boy stood up and yelled, "Hail hitler!!! *salutes*'... I looked at him with a blank face and said 'hi'. Then proceeded with class.

Do they have a dok do quiz in there? That would be interesting

what grade?

I'm in a public elementary, and had to deal with some grade sixers who found out about Hitler in their class, and started giving the Nazi love whenever they could.... I reminded them that Hitler was pals with Japan.... then gave their teacher, who was mortified, this pic to show who really was the big winner of the times:

This test is actually a "standard" test used for the English quiz golden bell. I've heard the exact same questions repeated (including the Hitler one) by about half my mates in public schools. What I believe actually happened is, the KT is supposed to design a test each year for the golden bell, obviously this is quite a bit of work, so they get a copy of a quiz from one of their friends, and pass it off as their own. There are probably only 5 different quizes in the whole of Gyeonggi Do.

Some of us waygooks, through various connections, contribute to these public school quazi-standardized exams.
We're not always in the best frame of mind or even mood when doing so.
The results can come out.. well, like most Korean/Non-Korean joint efforts.

Good. The Hitler question is accounted for. I didn't do it.

Edit: Holy poo, it's all here. http://seoulrain.net/489
The spelling and usage ain't all that great on some of 'em.
And some are so obliquely odd, they don't help with English, but could create Emos.

Apparently the conspiracy extends beyond Gyeonggi Do. I work in Seoul and I was asked to read several of those questions at our student government teambuilding day last year. I thought that my co-teacher wrote them and was impressed. It turns out that all of the questions she pilfered were from the first 10 on the list. I guess she's even lazier than I thought! Say what you will, but he was a major historical figure. At no point did the question state "I am awesome", but instead gave his opinions. Meh, I'd say it works better as a high school question, but its hardly neo-nazi recruiting material. I'd like to see one on Idi Amin, just so cannibalism could be introduced as a new vocabulary word.

Why do the Koreans think it's okay to be casual about mass genocide of the Jews, but think that the comfort women were a horrible injustice that the entire world should notice?

YEP! I looked at it and it's THE SAME 100 questions, same errors, etc. Well, I'm glad the woman I am working for didn't write it because I was about to tear her a new asshole.

I don't like the Hitler quiz because none of the 5 clues have anything to do with Hitler. Well, #5 I guess, but I've never heard anyone refer to them as "gas rooms".

They should replace one question with:
He, like Korean public schools, enjoyed having camps. They were for concentrating, too.
