For those of you unfamiliar, 장자연 was a korean actress that killed herself and left a note saying that her old manager forced her to have sex with him and other top entertainment executives. I think she stated that was the reason she killer herself.
So, if her old manager is found guilty, i wonder what your thoughts are on his punishment. I take the American Republican philosophy, of give people their freedom, and if they abuse it, bring down the wrath of God.
So my opinion, since she died from his direct, illegal, and horrible actions, I say fry him. put him in the chair.
if they dont do that, then make his punishment so severe that all the other F ups doing similar thing are pushed to stop.
If they put him in jail for 6 months, and he made millions of dollars off of her, he will just do it again.
If he goes to jail for 20 years, and is fined about ... his entire worth so that he is broke, others will stop too since it wont be worth the risk.
Your thoughts?
and before anyone says "she had a choice she could have left..."
please, this is korea. she did not have a choice. |

As sad as it may sound I don't see a lot happening to him or those who worked under him. If anything happens to him it will be minor like a fine or minimal sentence of a few years. Even if that were to happen I doubt the practice will stop with just this one incident. It's been going on since the dawn of show business.
After the initial story broke there was talk about the absurd contracts wannabe stars had to sign literally signing away their lives for the chance of stardom and many, according to some stories, never made it anyway. With that other than a reasonable punishment to those involved (and those guilty) should be some kind of reform in contract law, something I very much doubt will happen any time soon. |

| Is what the manager did even a criminal offense? What he did is terrible, but no one forced her to go along with it. She wanted to be a star, and was at least initially willing to have sex to get what she wanted. I really dont have much sympathy for her. She could have walked away at any time. |

| Well I'm pretty unclear on what constitues a sex crime here because as I type this I'm watching Korean soft porn that seems to be depicting several, but from the reports I have read she was also beaten a lot too. |

you dont think coercion to forced sex in the world of confucionism is a sex crime?
then to you, if your boss says "have sex with me or i will fire you is not a sex crime?" is the only form of sex crimes straight up rape at gun point?
do you think it went like "hey, sleep with me and i can help you or you can go find another manager, but it is really your choice, dont worry, you have other options and in no way am i pressuring you to do this..."
obviously, if she killed herself, there was some force put into it. |

I doubt he had to be so blunt as to spell it out for her. He is the guy with the juice, the actresses know that. Probably all he has to do is invite her out drinking to discuss her career, tell her she is pretty, etc.. My understanding is that its common knowledge thats how women launch acting careers in Korea. |

It wasnt rape, it was consensual.
She knew what she needed to do to become famous and had second thoughts.I dont blame the manager entirely, she is also to blame but took the cowards way out. |

what the manager was doing is not legal!
he was holding private parties for high officals and then making the women have sex with them for connections..
he was running a so called high end brothal and luring young women and forcing them into sex by threatning them with abuse...
he can be fined for running a high end brothal,
married men visiting and having sex with girls..
all the offcials don't want that list made public becuase it will ruin the lives of everyone on it...
the managers life is already ruined! his wife and children have been effected and all his friends now know what kind of bastard he is...
I want the list to be made public so all those other scum bags can loose face from their families and work... |

How is it rape? How was she coerced.
Rape means the use of force against an unwilling person. Was she unwilling? Was she held down and forcefully raped? She knew the reality of the business. She would have to have been stupid not to. Was she coerced? Perhaps she was. She must have known that to become a star she would have to do things that she wouldnt like, but was she forced to do them? Did anyone put a gun to her head? Calling this rape is offensive to women to actually have been raped. This is a case of a girl going along with things because she wanted to be the next starlet, and then having doubts and feelings of shame for having done those things. |
