It's the pipe that comes out of the boiler that is frozen. Stand there for an hour with a hair dryer blowing on it. Or plant an electric heater right in front of the pipes. |

PS - I think an old Canadian trick would be to have a heating syestem that doesn't break every damned winter, and good-quality pipes.
Now I'm gonna go take an hour long power shower, suckers.

Oh please!
Listen, you guys do understand what happens to water when it freezes right? It's not just a matter of saying "Well, guess I don't have hot water for a while". If you don't deal with the problem now you could potentially have a much bigger problem when the pipe bursts. |

Same thing for two days here... although mine worked long enough yesterday to shower. Then it froze late last night AGAIN.
I boiled water and did a soldier-bath today (no helmet though -- used a pot). |

what blows me away is this is supposed to be a first world country with a climate where it gets below freezing a lot so you'd figure they would build buildings and insulate pipes from freezing.
but NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!
In the states you only see this in the deep south where pipes aren't insultated and where it gets below freezing about 2-3x/year if that much

Was watching the news.... all the pipes burst at Daegu Station today! It was a bloomin' madhouse in there!

I had no hot water for two days, had to go to a friend's place to shower today, when I got back to my place the hot water was back on. Now, about five hours later, I have no water at all -- no hot, no cold.
I am very angry. |

Went out and bought a hair dryer. Currently busy trying to unfreeze the pipes. No hot water or heating for two days now and I've got the flu. Sucks, big time.
Last holiday one of the heating pipes underneath our beds burst. Had people tramping around our apartment for two days. Then the boiler conked out. Another day wasted.
Am not a happy man |

I've got four pipes, two groups of two, coming out of the boiler. Two thin ones, think that must be the heating. Two thick ones, one looks like a gas pipe, other one must be the water.
So, which is which, anybody? |

BANG! THUMP! KA-THUNK! Those are the shuddering sounds at night of pipes freezing. This morning the outside tap is on to keep the water moving so it won't freeze up in the pipes.

| I haven't seen it mentioned, but once your pipes are no longer frozen, or if they haven't frozen yet, leave the water dripping. Its annoying but it works. Just leave the faucet on enough for a small drip, that should do the trick. Also, after your pipes thaw, pay careful attention because you will probably have a leak somewhere where the pressure was too much- usually at a joint or weak spot. |
