A lot of people have been criticizing Jon Huer's "Top Ten Things Foreigners Like About Korea," mainly because he didn't talk to any foreigners and is speaking for himself. It actually wouldn't have been bad if he had titled it "Top Ten Things I Like ..."
So let's make our own list, one made by actual, living, breathing foreigners. Add anything that comes to mind. I'll start.
* Public Transportation. There is absolutely no need to own a car in Korea. Subways, buses, and taxis are cheap and can take you anywhere. Subways, especially, are to be commended as they run often, and rarely have a long interruption in service. Sure, they can be crowded sometimes, but that's the price you have to pay. Speaking of prices, did I mention how cheap they are? |

yeah, I love the subway too, except for the horribly short running times on the weekend. If they changed that it would be almost perfect (as it can be).
Are we each submitting only 1 thing?
If so, my 1 thing is how older people embrace exercise (like hiking Dobong or Surak). Old people in the street sometimes get a little pushy, but everyone I've met going up and down the mountains has been very nice. I'm an outdoors kind of person, so if I didnt have easy access to nature I'd go crazy, but luckily I'm close to some good mountains (which,I guess in Korea, who isnt?)
Hiking in those places just seems to put a smile on everyone's face. Maybe it's the thin air |

ok, might as well be the first to post it and get it out of the way...
korean girls
sure they get needy, can be smothering, jealous, and even have kimchi breath from time to time. but bless 'em, i cant get enough. better teeth and overall more attractive than japanese girls (though there r many japanese girls whos bath water i would drink), and better dressed and hygenical than chinese.
for all the negatives that can be said about them, theyre almost all wiped out with the "mini skit, tal boot/sock" style that lasts year round.
cheers to u ladies! |

Two things that I like:
1) No one wants to sit next to me on the bus.
2) No one passes me advertisements. |

The visa system. (except E2s) If you have an E7 or an F2 it is
basically a license to print money. |

THIS.
But, in more general, the lifestyle. The salary goes a long way in Korea, and one can easily live very comfortably--get tailor-made clothes, have custom furniture made, get maid service, eat at restaurants, and still have enough left over for a nice vacation. |

Apparantly Jon Huer was trying to describe things that "foreigners" like about Korea in a romantic or more humanistic way(he rarely talked about hardware in his article). A lot of us just dont get his connotation.
He is a columnist, but not a blogger. His job is as a girl selling beer in a bar, not trying to make beer taste better but make the drinking more pleasurable.
But you are right, he should not speak for all foreigners.
