Anyone from the states have any advice?
Was thinking I would just have to wait the month or so for the Korean side to accept my stuff. Thought I could get the background check from a walk-in service (live scan) here.
This is horrible.
I do not want to wait almost half a year for this!
Help.
Very bummed right now.

You don't need an FBI check. You can just go to your local police station and ask for a certified state wide check. Then you just have to get it notarized and apostilled. |

Ask yourself this question: Why is it so easy to get a job in South Korea? If it was really so great, wouldn't everyone be doing it? |

Yeah, I got mine through the DOJ in California. If you get a background check issued by the state, then it shouldn't have to be notarized before it getting apostilled since its a document issued by the state. I didn't. Just ask for a letter attached with an original signature and official seal. |

I'm tired of LA, too.
Went to the police station in W. Hollywood, they said it'll be ready tomorrow.
Is this the right form?
They said it's for travelers, but is not technically a crim background check.
Costs $42.
Then I just get it apostillized?
Include a letter from apostillizer?
No idea what that means, but guess I'll soon know. |

Of what do I have to fear...?
Heard so many horror stories, but still optimistic.
Dice throw, but chance I'll end up in a good spot, no?
Some do.
...and others do not, of course. |

What's your BMI?
Male? Female?
White?
Age?
The answers to these questions will matter. |

My FBI check (and I was in Korea when I requested it) took no more than 6 weeks. Silly because I'd lived in Korea for the previous 12 years, but a hoop I had to hop through. |

k, well assuming all goes well, 6 wks + 4 wks = 2.5 months...
feeling like if i just get a pretty enough paper, they'll take it.
seems as if everyone's done something different.
def not all did the fbi check.
and nobody has an absolutely clear answer.
but thx, anyway. |

What is not clear for you? You can get any background check you want. It can be local, county, state, or nationwide. If you want to waste time and money with the FBI check, go ahead. I know I didn't. |
