What schools are regarded as the best for Linguistics in Europe, outside of the UK? I'm looking for places that are cheap for EU citizens.

If there are any N.American Unis with European prices I'm also interested in them ^^

The reason I'm avoiding the UK is because I have 2 cats and coming from Korea is not easy with pets. Continental Europe is much more open to animals than the UK. And the Unis are cheaper ~

I've tried doing a few searches for 'best linguistics schools in the world' and so on but I tend to only find lists of good N. American Universities rather than lists which include the rest of the world. I'm hoping someone on this forum has some knowledge about universities in Europe with good Linguistics departments.

Two of the best linguistics programmes in Europe are the to befound at the Universitaet Leiden (Psycholinguistics) in the Netherlands and the Universitt Leipzig in Germany. Both are well known and work together with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and the Max Planck Research Centre on Neuroscience of Communication.

If you get admitted into the PhD programmes you won't have to worry about paying tuition. Language of instruction at both schools is English, though knowledge of Dutch/German is encouraged. Part of the course at the Uni Leipzig/IMPRS is learning German, so if you already speak it you have a leg up.

Check out Linguisten.de for frequent postings of study opportunities in Germany (Click Ausschreibungen).
