You dont' have to have read part I for this to make sense by the way!

So, I am planning to be out in Korea by the start of May with my new job. But, I had just phoned to check on the status of my Crim Record Check (this is in the UK btw), and low and behold it could take up to 40 days to arrive, which takes me to April 20th. I have been given an estimate of 13-15th April for it to be processed.
My question is this. How long will it take to apostille my CRC get it sent to Korea to the recruiter for a number for my visa, and then get the visa organised. Any assistance is much appreciated!!

I am the only teacher that will be at my school, so if necessary I might ask them to push things back by two weeks, but I don't know how likely they will be to do this!!

apostatizing can be done in 2 to 3 days

Getting a CRC can be done in 1 day

Sending it can be done in 1 day

Getting the Visa issue number will take 10 days

So if everything works perfectly it can be done in 2 weeks, but practically three or four weeks.

...UK to korea in one day? I sent it from Canada through UPS and it took 2 days to get there, then another 2 days to get to the actual address in Seoul!

In Canada at least, the apostille process only took a day, I got it notarized and brought it to the consulate in the morning and got everything taken care of within half an hour.

Not true. If you want to get your CRC it will take 40 days. There is no way around this. However, you can get a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland (it doesn't matter if you don't or have never lived in Scotland) within a couple of weeks I believe, but best to check their website.

http://www.disclosurescotland.co.uk/

If you want to get it apostilled very quickly (like that same day) then you are going to have to get on a train (or a bus or car whatever floats your boat) and go to Milton Keynes, which is where the FCO's Apostille office is nowadays. Otherwise, you'll have to send it by post and who knows how long this will take (hopefully only a few days).

http://www.fco.gov.uk/en/about-the-fco/what-we-do/docs-and-legal-services/legalisation/

Additionally, your CRC from the police does not need to be apostilled. If you get a Basic Disclosure from Disclosure Scotland then you will need to apostille this. Any copies of your Degree Certificate(s) need to be apostilled.

It will take a couple of days for your documents to reach Korea, even if you drop your documents off at a Fed Ex Counter (this is with next day delivery). If you live nowhere near a Fed Ex or DHL or whatever location then it will most likely involve another day to set up the pick up from your home or current workplace.

It will take a week to 10 days for your prospective employer to send your visa number (or, if you have applied to a public school, for them to send you your contract and invite letter). You will have to make a trip to the Korean Embassy in London and apply for the visa. They will take a week to process your visa. Additionally if you are applying to a hagwon, they may well decide that you need an interview with an embassy official before they can greenlight your visa. This could delay things further.

So if you go the official CRC route, you are looking at the 40 day waiting time, plus 2 days for it to be received in Korea, plus 7-10 days for your prospective employer to sort things out their end, plus a week (or more perhaps if they decide to interview you) to get the visa from the embassy. 56 - 60+ days.

If you go the Basic Disclosure route then you are looking at around 2 weeks to get it, plus 1 day (if you make the trip to MK) or a few days to get it apostilled, plus 7-10 days for your prospective employer to sort things out their end, plus a week (or more perhaps if they decide to interview you) to get the visa from the embassy. 28 - 32+ days.

I'm sorry to be a wank*r but I think you need to plan ahead a bit more. Before sending off the form did you not think of asking how long it would take got get back to you?

If you did not think of quite simple things like this you will be in for a disaster when you get to Korea!!!

BTW - I sent over all my documents by Royal Mails express service (2-3 days) it cost something like 50 quid though!

Oh one more thing - Have you got your contract yet? Read it very carefully before sending off your signed copy back to Korea.

Everything you send over take copies of yourself, and bring them with you when you come over.

Ah finally - I assume you will be going to the Korean embassy in London.

They are NOT open all day for VISA's - Its something like 10am-12 then 2-4pm or something like that.

Ring them up to double check - don't trust the website!

PLAN AHEAD!!!!

Good luck when you get over.

No you're not. Whatever pressure your recruiter / school is applying and whatever they are saying with regards to your start date being fixed and immovable, they are full of BS. It is quite common for schools to have to wait a month longer because of complications surrounding the visa process...they are not (whatever they may say) in the position where they have tons of applicants clamouring at their doors and can afford to ditch you because it's taking too long and want to go with someone who can be their sooner.

Just inform them of the situation and advise them that it may take a couple of weeks longer. They might hem and haw about it but they will accept it.

He is right.

Just getting a suitable candidate takes a lot of time.

Get your docs in order first.
