I was wondering what you guys think is the best course of action: My contract with my hogwon ends in August however I have been seeing this girl from Taiwan that I am pretty serious about. We have managed to keep flying back and forth between Korea every 6 weeks but she wants me to move to Taiwan as soon as possible. I want to be closer to her if for nothing else but to save on the plane ticket costs but I want to know how feasible it is to get a job in Taiwan in the present economy? Does it matter if you are non-Caucasian? Where would I find the most jobs?
The other choice being for me to stay in Korea and keep flying over which I would rather not do... I like Korea a lot and my contract will definitely be renewed in a year if I decide to stay but like I mentioned earlier, I am not sure whether I should bank on moving to Taiwan or plan to stay in Korea? |

When in doubt, follow your heart.
Since you travel to Taiwan rather frequently anyway, start sending out applications and tell them you will be in Taiwan on X date and be available for interviews.

Hey guys, I really do want to be in Taiwan and thanks for the advice. She lives in Kaohsiung and from what I am seeing most of the teaching jobs are in Taipei so I imagine I will be taking the HSR quite frequently. Thanks for the tip ya-ta, I think I will indeed make that statement on my job applications and hopefully I will find something soon since I am going to Marry her  and would like to settle down. |

Try to find a job in Kaohsiung. The HSR will add up in costs and it`s quite the distance. Kaohsiung is very liveable. I went there last September. Never seen soooo many scooters in my life. |

Move to Taiwan. Cost of living is seriously low, especially outside of Taipei. You can always teach privates as they are legal. Big organizations, public schools, etc. will hire people who are not caucasian. Try Kojen. I loved working for them.
Best jobs are in pre-schools as the hours are good, the work load is light and you get weekends off. |

Cool, you can take the gravy train by teaching youngsters the ABC's, phonics, and singing nursery songs. I read that the job market is getting very tight in Taewon as the economy tanks out due to decreased exports. |

It's been bad since SARS so it's probably best to apply to a couple places from Korea and see if you get any bites or not. |
