The second definition is the one most people I've spoken with use. Canada and Mexico are not abroad under that definition. |

I don't think the Bush Administration showed an arrogant or disdainful attitude toward most of Western Europe, only the French and Germans, who have yet to pony up for the fight against terrorism in Afghanistan despite President Obama's overtures.
Spain-before the socialists were elected--sent troops as of course did the Brits, despite having a Labor Party leader at 10 Downing Street. And Bertolucci and Bush got along famously.
But I'm glad you distinguished them from the Eastern Europeans who in the main liked Bush and understood from recent experience with the Soviets the true meaning of freedom. Of course the mainstream liberal media never has this half of Europe in mind whenever it laments our image on the continent. |
