|
|
A friend told me last night that she just finished a two month course at a flight attendant hagwon which she paid 1.6 million for. She didn't really go into detail about the material that they study, but for 800k/month, the owner is pulling in some serious money. She said there were about 15 students in the class, and the classes are for 15 hours a week. Does anyone know what is actually taught to justify having to pay that much? |

I imagine how to use fake plastered smiles when people ask you for another bag of peanuts for the 15th time using the call button just to get a glimpse of your knee high skirt... |

1.6 K. That's expensive. My MS & HS girls get a Flight Attendant lesson - for free. |

i dont think what is taught is what is important.
what is important is that it LOOKS professional, they CLAIM it will help them get a job, they MAYBE help with the applications, and being a flight attendant is a sought after job.
THUS, they can charge ridiculous amounts, because in this coutry, people dont ask what they are getting for their money, they just assume that expensive means good.
that's it...
edit...
i have to add, i know a korean lady, she has a friend that went to one of those insanely priced english hogwons in gangnam. the cost was literally 1,000,000 a month. after over a year, and obviously over 12,000,000, she said her english was only slightly improved.
but she was happy to go their because it was a good school. |

Quite a few of my students are training to be flight attendants. They learn poise, hair/makeup, how to smile, how to give those announcements when the captain turns on the fasten seat belt sign etc, how to give good service (glorified waitresses basically), how to succeed at the job interview for Korean Air (although sometimes they do apply to other companies if they can't get in there, like Qatar Air), how to stand and walk, and some other stuff that I haven't been told. |

Interesting you should mention this, as it's an upcoming podcast topic. I have an interview with a former flight attendant who speaks excellent English sometime in the near future. |

They don't learn English at these hogwans. They might learn what to say regarding announcements and some basic questions ("Would you like Korean style or Western style breakfast?") but if they want to learn English they go to hogwans for that like everyone else. |
