I teach at a girls high school and the majority of my students are obsessed with the drama 꽃보다 남자, which has just finished. I would like to do a project over 2 or 3 classes where I put them in groups and they have to continue the story or create a dialogue for a role play.
Because their level is quite low, my rough plan is to do a brainstorm of the characteristics of each character first, and then give each group a scenario which they have to create a dialogue for and act out (my gf suggested just having them come up with their own story would be too difficult for them). I will show them a short clip of an English teen drama to give them a few ideas for the dialogue.
I'll see how it goes but will probably give them about 30mins+ to create the dialogue, and then about 20-30 mins time in the following class to rehearse before each 3 minute or so performance.
Does anybody have any suggestions, advice or ideas for how I could improve this rough plan?
Thanks |

I am thinking the television show might be a touchy subject, what with the suicide of one of its stars. Hmm, I don't know. |

My students were still all about the show after the suicide. I expected some teary eyes but none of the kids really seemed that interested. |

Sounds like a good idea.
If they are low level you can provide them with a list of example adjectives or verbs to help them create their conversations (they could have a short list of words for each character) or you could provide them with the beginnings or endings of modeled sentences and they have to fill in the gaps.
Using TV shows/movies/music/drawing is always a great way to stimulate student interest.
good luck! |

Nice idea. Probably a good way to ruin the show for them, though. In high school, for me, when ever a teacher talked about some item of pop culture, it became instantly uncool.
Good luck with it. Even with my highest level students, a task like that would require a lot of "scaffolding." I would give them lot's of target phrases and get them to use them in the dialogue, that way you have someting to aim for. |

Ah, but, by default we're all 'cool' simply because we're foreigners
Yes, no matter how awkward or geeky we were back home, here we are 'Charisma Man' (that's an infamous gaijin cartoon in Japan). |

Great idea. I also teach at a girls' high school. But I'm not sure if my lot could string a dialog together. I'd be very interested to hear how you get on (I might do something similar later in the year when they're Englisheee confidence has improved).
Keep us posted. |

*cough*
Here's my script. I hope it helps.
[남자보다돈]
Two girls walk into a bar and hear two men talking..
Girl1: Who are those two guys?! They have the worst voices!
Girl2: Yeah, the sound like idiots..
The girls head toward the bar to order some drinks..
Girl2: Ugh, they are so ugly!!
Girl1: I've seen pigs with better features than that..
They get to the counter..
Girl2: They stink.. What a stench!
Girl1: I think I'm going to puke..
Suddenly, Man1 says..
Man1: Hey, we have to head to our doctor's meeting. It's in 10 minutes.
Man2: That's right. I'll go get my Lexus.
Man1: No, no. I'll go get my Ferrari.
Man2: Alright, it's a bit faster anyway.
The men start to head out..
Girl1: They have money!
Girl2: Quick before they get away! |
