I certainly wouldn't consider it plagiarism... but I guess it is at Acadia. It's a STUPID rule and the senate should get their head out of their ass! |

I certainly wouldn't consider it plagiarism... but I guess it is at Acadia. It's a STUPID rule and the senate should get their head out of their ass! |
It was considered plagiarism at my uni. I always thought it was considered plagiarism in most N.A universities as well. |

Why is it stupid?
No two assignments will be exactly alike (especially for two different courses). It may not be plagiarism in the strictest sense, but it's hardly academic honesty to re-cycle your own work over and over. |

I've handed in very similar papers for two different classes. It's rather interesting when one prof gives it an A+ and the other an A-. In fact a few times I even told a prof that I wanted to revise / expand a paper I did for a different class and they were fine with that. |

"Over and over"?... I never had assignments where I could do it once!
Even if I had been able to plagiarize myself, I wouldn't call it that - I'd call it 'efficiency'.  |

If you hand in a paper, previously handed in, as though it is the first time, yes, it would be plagiarism. It is o.k. to borrow work from yourself, but you need to cite the source even if you are that source. In Korean, it's referred to as 자기 표절 (Coincidentally, I heard a Korean prof mention it today). |

| Yes, that was against the academic integrity standards of my university as well. I don't think they went so far to call it plagiarism, but it was definitely against the rules. It really sucked for me once when I had virtually identical assignments for two different courses held in two different colleges at my university. I really could have just printed 2 copies out and handed them in for my respective courses. Instead, I had two type two distinct papers with the same information organized differently. It wasn't all that difficult, but it did take a bit of time the week before finals that semester. |

um.... okay.
Anyway, this powerpoint was useful for me to in helping the classes that I teach to avoid plagiarism.
Just thought I'd share. Hopefully it will be helpful to someone else as well.. |
