Things are going to get weird. Korea and their new "3 strikes" implementation as well.

A good time to get smart.

Aside from the "It will take so long" and "Still looking for a needle in a haystack" rebuffs, what do you think the results will be?

Seems the whack-a-mole game is over.....?

What's to say? Eventually, stricter legislation is going to reach every country in an attempt to curb piracy.

What do you mean by "get smart"? Just enjoy while you can.

Packet encryption. Someone will find a way to disguise the packet maybe? I need to read more about DPI before I could say with certainty.

From what I understand, the most elementary implementation of DPI reads the packet headers only; it (although the name implies "Deep" packet inspection) won't look inside the packet. Now, as the hardware probes deeper into the packet, things become more complicated and thus, more expensive.

This is where the fine print of the agreement will need going over. How deep does the agreement state the inspection must be? Probably past the header...this is easy to spoof. We shall see anyways....if each signing country is to implement their own level of inspection, then Korea may take the less invasive route. This equipment is prohibitively expensive; some ISPs may not be able to afford it...hopefully, but then, that will probably shut them down. We will be left with very few choices.

Maybe a renegade ISP? Advertising "No DPI!" Laughing

Perhaps VPN would solve this. Instead of joining torrent sites, people will join VPNs for sharing.

Just an interesting discussion. Better than the Mac vs. PC borefest.

"Its telling that most of the computers at government agencies rely on pirated software." said a Korean software developer.

Hey, if people can get a child car seat law taken out, why not this?

But yes, private encrypted networks........

Pirate Bay is starting to offer a paid VPN (VPN-like) service:

http://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-announces-ipredator-global-anonymity-service-090323/

Quote:
As the online battle against file-sharers heats up with governments and ISPs forced into the arena, those opposed to being monitored are investigating counter-measures. Soon the Pirate Bay team will introduce IPREDATOR, a service that promises to make global Internet users more anonymous than with existing VPN services.

Sign of the times, I guess.

Indeed. I signed up about a month ago already...can't wait until it kicks off.

However, Sweden recently announced (again) that IP information is enough to prosecute and that information was readily made available to copyright holders, which led to a 40-odd percent drop in users in a single day - the day it was re-stated.

Fun times....
