Does anyone have one of the 901s? I'm interested in buying one, but I would like English XP though I'm likely going to install Eeebuntu on it anyway.
They're only 507'000won on gmarket right now, for the XP version with, I'm assuming, the 12GB internal SSD. Is the 20GB linux version available in Korea? That would be awesome. |

They're cheaply made pieces of crap.
Get the Samsung NC10. It's got a much better keyboard and it's doesn't look like a toy. |

The thing is for that price I might as well buy a full-blown laptop, and I don't want a laptop. Are there any decent, cheap mini-PC solutions out there? |

I agree it's still expensive here and you then have to buy and install your English OS.
Check online for prices in N. America and look at Asus, Acer and the new Lenovo netbook. They have lot better reviews than the eePC you want and are way cheaper at home. However, if you have 500 to 600,000 won burning a hole, then knock yourself out. Just think you could get a better computer for a better price. |

Ideally, I'd like a subcompact linux netbook with no frills and enough processor and ram to deal with 100mb wav files. If I could get something like that for, say 200'000won, I'd be set. |

My parents have the Eee 1000 and like it. It has a big enough keyboard where it's not awkward. And you can upgrade the ram to 2 gig pretty easy I hear.
All electronics are expensive because of the exchange rate.
What you want is out of your price range probably. |

I have an Acer Aspire One and I love it - it's small enough to carry in my purse but it's as powerful as any basic laptop - I'm running XP but you could easily switch to linux. I got it before I left Canada and it was about $350 new. It runs all my programs, is good at multitasking, and the built in graphics card works fine for everything I use, including some online games.
The keyboard isn't noticeably smaller than any other laptop I've ever used - I was used to it and touch typing by about the second day of use.
Worth considering if you're still looking for suggestions! |

The Dell Mini 9 has the linux image on the Internet so you can put it on to the XP version you get in Korea.
Unfortunately you still have to pay for the XP image so it's still 580,000won.
I've seen display models of the EEE901 going for 420,000 in Technomart. |

Anyone running MicroXP? (Scroll down that page for downloads) If you want Windows, it seems to be the clear choice for a machine that is somewhat lacking. |

Well, a solution fell into my lap. I loaned an old laptop to a friend, who is now buying a new laptop. So I'm getting my old Samsung Sens P28 back. I had ubuntu running quite well on it at one point. |

eePCs aren't worth IMO
I have a Windbook, made in Taiwan and love it!! it's my travelin' bud!
is ever bit as fast as my macbook pro but weighs like 1 kg, I have no problem typing on it; I have winxp in E, 80 g of hard space, it's phenomenal!!
I paid 650,000 last summer, think they're still about the same but shop around |
