There are a million threads about this. Use the search.

I'll answer your question anyways:

Korean phones are NOT GSM. They have USIM cards, which are NOT the same as the SIM cards that are in GSM phones. You can NOT put a US/UK/Canada/Japanese/Zimbabwe/Antartica/Brazilian/etc... Sim card into a Korean Cell Phone and have it work.

The only way you can use your Korean cell phone outside of Korea is to have it ROAM with a carrier that has a partnership with a Korean carrier.

Likewise, the only way you can use a GSM phone in Korea is if is ROAMing on a Korean carrier.

I think the MODs should sticky a thread like this.

TRo unlock your phone try one of these methods:

press 0000 then *,

or press the last 4 digits of the number.

Might work. Good luck!

Thanks for your answer, and and I had done a search about this on the site before I asked. I do understand about the difference of the two systems.

However, there are unlocked phones here for sale and that are used here. So, the question is still one of where can you get one unlocked.

The reason I'm skeptical with what you say is because if unlocked phones DID work in Korea, then you'd have a flood of phones from the US/China/HK into Korea.

Read that article. It SAYS that it can be done, but I haven't heard of anyone being able to do it successfully.
