whats going on, i ask where the thread about the kid who died in the sauna went to and now thats been deleted too. I thought this site was for expats living in seoul, if we cant even ask questions, questions that are literally of life and death importance to us here what's the point. Its ok for you to link articles slagging off westerners and calling us everything under the sun, but god forbid we ask a question that might embrass koreans. If you are going to restict stuff at least have the guts to say why.

Sometimes the mods pull a thread into the hidden mod forum to discuss. The discussion takes a few days because they have to wait for all the mods to weigh in. Believe it or not, the mods here have a lot more patience and consideration than other boards. Give them a break, there's no conspiracy against you.

and that's what we are up against, I ask a serious question, and you come back with that. I am very, very happy to disappoint you.

That's fair enough as long as the thread reappears, which if this place is as fair as you suggest, then it will, we shall see, but i doubt that it will.

I have no idea about whether or not the thread will come back. I'm just telling you what probably happened to it and why it takes awhile for them to decide what to do. Sometimes they split the thread, sometimes they prune off posts they deem deserving - it's up to them. At least they do actually have a discussion to reach a consensus about it.

Therein lies the problem. Apparently, according to the mods, they can delete anything for any reason at anytime. I think thats a ridiculous rule. In fact, I may have my account removed for this. I posted about a issue I had with one of the chat mods in the OFF TOPIC section (supposedly where anything can be discussed) and it was removed. Innapropriate threads (about sex, where to find it, beating children etc.) are allowed to be discussed ALL the time. So its not a matter of good or bad, its a matter of what the mods deem to be good or bad. A good ToS policy, especially on a board as large as this one, should be clearly laid out and followed. As far as it stands now, they dictate EVERYTHING regardless. This is a public forum and should be treated as such. I may get deleted for this. Thats fine. But its no way to run a forum.

Discussions should not be taken down to be discussed amonst the mods. Thats what Nazi's do. They discuss it to see whether or not it looks bad, screw the individual and their rights. They have a responsibility of free speech. Sure its their website, but they open it to the public. Just as the public is expected to follow the rules, the mods are expected to treat the public fairly. I know I had surfed this site for a year before I could even SIGN UP. I loved this site so much. Now that I can actually post, and most of the posts that I find interesting get deleted, I feel betrayed. Ive put a lot of time into the board, read I would say 99% of EVERY post ever posted, give them a lot of traffic and for what? No rights? You have to think about it this way.... Dave's makes a lot of revenue off of us. Whether you think so or not. They have obgliations to address our concerns rather then deleting them as Im sure this post will be deleted.

Im ranting. I had a bad day...

I theorized that dave or another ESL site owner might be selling email addresses because someone got some ESL spam to a private address he's never revealed. Thread quietly disappeared.
That's pretty much a flat out admission.

Those with god like powers, mods, can do whatever they want if it's OK with the sites owner who can also do likewise. It's not a freedom of speech contest like you could have in real life at a bar, on a blog, or any other uncensored gathering. Like many other sites, this site is privately owned, censored, monitored, and controlled in ways that defy our belief in freedom of speech.

Normally I would agree 100%. But with the amount of income they are making off people like us, well its ridiculous. There should be some user rights at this point. Do you realize how much this site charges to post a ad for a job? Its $75 for one ad. Not to mention all the Ad's on the site itself (not job ad's but advertisements "targeted" towards us, the audience) I just feel like we are the ones who keep this site going, who pay Dave's salary, so we should have some rights as far as our speech goes. But as we all know, thats rarely the way.

I think you should start a union, hold meetings, collect dues and start demonstrations in front of the American embassy. It would help if you would volunteer to be the first to cut off a finger and mail it to Dave.

You can choose to accept the inevitable, and assimilate into the vortex - or you can join the others and ride horses, chase dragons and smoke monsters and risk death on the other side of the island. The choice is yours. If you choose to stay with the Dave's initative, you'll have medical care, housing with A/C, a variety of movies to watch, and most important - a submarine to get off the island with. The choice is yours.

Assimilate or join the others.
