Hi,
I may be doing a "telephone interview" regarding a uni. position in Korea,(it's a long story), within the next day or two. I am certain that the question,"What is your teaching philosophy?", will be among the first asked. While I do have my own tried and true teaching philosophy, I am wondering if any learned souls, with lots of ROK experience, could offer advice as to what really hits the mark with university directors in Korea. Thank-you in advance for any and all constructive replies. |

Just say this:
"There are two things in my life that I despise. One is teacher-centered teaching. The other is the Japanese claim to Dokdo. In my opinion, the two are quite similar. Like a teacher endlessly talking about nothing, not engaging the students, and not helping others learn, such are the Japanese political spoutings that they own Dokdo. If you were to ask Noam Chomsky what he thought of my opinions, he would agree.
I plan all of my lessons using the SIOP model, and include a variety of task-based lessons based on popular topics, such as hanwoo beef, Gogoreyo, and Kimchi."

CLT! Communicative Language Teaching. Task-Based Learning. Personalization. Child-Centered Learning. Teacher Talk Time Down! Student Talk Time Up! That should make em happy. |

I'm not sure if the Korean admins hiring are up with some of the buzz words over in North America, but Differentiated Instruction is one of those. So if I was interviewing for a job, I would make sure to say that I incorporate DI into my lessons to appeal to as many types of learners as possible.
Then again, Koreans probably still think that most learners are auditory, and then wonder why not all kids can handle the rigors of the Korean education system. |

I'd use the word "global" as often as possible.
Koreans are ga-ga over this word... which is amusing considering they are as inward looking as they are culturally. |
