I'm looking for friends and advice about what to do in Goyang. I've been here about a month, and I've settled in, but now I want to get out and explore the area. I'm looking for some entertainment, maybe a movie theatre, or a fun bar. And some place with good steamed crab. Those huge crabs in the aquariums make me hungry, but knowing Korea's reputation with fish, I'm a bit leary. Also, maybe some folks to hang out with. I know some foreigners don't want to mix with other foreigners, and I'm not pushy. Mostly, I just want to know where some fun, of any kind as long as it's legal, is.

Those crabs will run you about 70,000 won. Try La Festa/Western Dom (well, they pretty much run from one to the other). There's a bar called The Frog and Toad in La Festa that has decent fish and chips. Also the Rosenbrau has all you can drink microbrew from 5:30 to 8:00 for something like 16,000 won.

Check out the "Foreigners in Ilsan" Facebook group. Good place to meet people.

Check out LaFesta on the weekends. Good eats, good bars. There's a hip-hop place called Bar Boom that's packed on the weekends. It's on the meat street, on the 3rd floor of the building with the Buy-the-way and flower shop, with a soccer kicker ball in front of it. Bar Boom is typically packed with foreigners on the weekends.

A little further down on the 2nd floor is a decent bar called Frog and Toad, where foreigners like to hang. You can see it from the street on the second floor, it has red and black paint on the balcony. The owner-dude, Steve, is a really good guy. There might still be open jams there on Wednesdays, I used to play there every week.

Another poster mentioned Lake Park, and I have to agree. It's a fantastic park and a great place to relax. Some of the best times I had in Goyang were chilling with friends at Lake Park under the stars, drinking beers and talking about conspiracy theories.

Western Dom is down from LaFesta, toward Jeongbalsan station. It's a newer shoppier area with tons of good eating and my personal favorite: a CGV movie theater.

Overall, Goyang is a great place to live. It remains in my opinion the best city in Korea. Join the foreigners in Ilsan group on facebook, or meet some new friends on couchsurfing, get out there and have fun!
