Actually, there is no such thing as an "incorrect" or "correct" accent. |
No, but some accents are thicker than others.
Nobody can understand the northern Scots for example. Apparently they are speaking English. Robin Williams does a great bit on this. Hot Fuzz has a great scene on this as well.
Sure people growing up in northern Scotland can understand each other (Apparently), but an ESL learner trying to learn English and take on a northern Scottish accent would be idiotic.
on the french side of things, Quebecors have thick french accents and I've heard stories about people from France occasionally having trouble there. In my younger days I called various provincial government agency numbers in my younger days when bilingual meant you had a french last name, grew up Acadian, and claimed to speak English, and probably a good 50% of what they said couldn't be understood.
The accent certainly isn't "wrong" but its a pain in the ass for a lot of people to try and decipher. |

Yeah, but my Korean accent is very obviously foreign.. people always look at me and exclaimed *you're not Korean!*.. haha... I love it when I let them talk, smile and pretend to understand when I often don't.. The look on their face is priceless when they find out I am not a woori nara salam. |
Intersting.

I have no accent when speaking english or french |
from the sounds of it you possibly grew up in New Brunswick, and I'll be honest with you, I haven't met an acadian yet who hasn't had an accent when speaking english. |
Generally i just speak like any other english speaking canadians. What i mean is that people cant tell that French is actually my mother tongue when i speak english.
Just so you know i didnt grow up in Newbrunswick. Acadians french/english is heavily accented from that area sooo you're right about that.
I'm Qubcois. Born in Quebec , parents are born there , their parents and sisters and brothers and cousins are all french and dont speak or understand any english. Pretty typical for country side people in Quebec. My situation is different though cuz i didnt grow up in Quebec. Im a military kid soo i grew up in germany and different places in canada where the environment is generally all english. And since canada has english/french as official languages on military bases they cater to the French speaking families by having french schools. |
