alright, so i've got a four day weekend and last minute i'm thinking about heading up to seoul for the long weekend. I've only been in korea for 3 weeks so this will be my first trip outside of busan.

i'll be making it up to seoul plenty of times this year so this time i just want to get a feel for the city and it's general layout. I'm curious about where i should stay and what i should see. I don't need to hit up all the big places this trip, i just want to see little bits and pieces at a time.

any suggestions on hotels and places to see for a quick get around of one section of the city? also i want to get to yangsan, should i plan on doing that on my way out of town? any help is appreciated.

hmm....Seoul's huge so there's any number of places you could start. Last time I went, I stayed in the Jongro-3 area....it is only a few stops from Seoul Station on the subway and there are a lot of motels in the area to choose from. If you take the subway to Jongro-3, take exit 1 out of the subway, go up on the street and walk straight. Right away you will start seeing motels on the right side of the street, they are in the alley behind the street- behind the McD's and all the other shops. You're near Insadong, a lot of shopping and whatnot. It's not far on the subway to Chunggyechun and other areas.

I hate my comp. I typed a long response and lost it.

Basically... there are motels everywhere (Love motels). They are usually decently clean and cheap. You can find them anywhere there's a stretch of nore-bangs, dvd-bangs, and restaurants. It says MOTEL if you can read Korean 모탤

Gangnam area has a lot of interesting western style things... COEX shopping mall, lots of western restaurants etc.

Itaewon is the foreigner trap - TONS of restaurants from around the world, and bars... but IMHO it's dirty, seedy, and a bit dangerous for one person at night.

Insadong (north-ish seoul) is where the koreans have a lot of their traditional food/music/art/clothes on display and for sale specifically for foreigners. Kind of a cool place to pick up trinkets and things to send home.

Good luck Smile
