What do you think about all the tonic drinks they sell? You know the ones with ginseng, or deer antlers, mushrooms, and loaded with vitamins. Some even have nicotine in them, great for the non-smoker. Or the hangover drinks that cost way too much won? I would have to say, I like them, especial when a student brings me a box of them as a gift. Bacchus is probably the biggest seller, but I personally like the ginseng drinks. How about you?

I personally like Bacchus too. A little interesting sidenote. Does anyone else here think Redbull tastes like Bacchus? I know that the inventors of Redbull had comeup with the idea based on the Asian energy drink, but I wonder if there is any connection.... |

And they both taste like Children's tylenol to me.
I like some of the medicine drinks, but some of them taste nasty.
And what do those 'Fiber mini' (Hway-i-bah mini) drinks qualify as? They are tastier than I had supposed. |

I don't think they tout it as a health drink, but rather as an energy drink.
I think nicotine and caffeine will give you a little boost, but its pretty tough on the body. |

I used to drink BaccusF all the time. Then one of my co-workers told me that it causes some horrible disease like Parkinsons. She gave no explination or evidence but it was enough to scare me off the stuff. If the locals mock it the way they do, I don't trust it! |

both nicotine and caffeine constrict blood vessels, which is why your hangover/headache seems to magically lessen or even disappear after consuming beverages such as Bacchus. a hot shower, coffee, and an aspirin or two always works for me. nicotine? no thanks....not that caffeine is great for your system, either
koreans make a soup that is particularly helpful because of the high vitamin B content. it's called "kong-na-mul guk" |

That kong-na mul-guk is very tasty indeed. I find that gom-tung is pretty good for a hangover too. Of course Hae-jung-guk comes in many forms, kong-na mul hae-jung guk being what everybody eats after too much soju. I also like bong-ah tung/guk, you know the stuff with the dried fish and chinese radish. Very good for a hangover when the tummy isn't feeling so wonderful. |

I did grow to like that pine-bud drink when I was there. It made my breath smell like car-freshener. |

I thought this was just a 'Thai thing,' but had to re-edumicate some friends back in Texas.
Seems the rage there now - even sold in the bars!!! - is the Thai habit of mixing elixirs (eg - Red Bull) with hard liquors & ice in a mixed drink. I admit to a fondness for the same - many a day lazed away with a ready supply of Thai 'whiskey,' Red Bull, soda, & ice on the beaches of Koh Samet, duly tended by a cabana gal . . .
The reason for the blend: the elixir helps shoot the alcohol straight into your system (think like mixing liquor w/ Powerade, Gatorade, etc.). Fast buzz!
And the aspirin, B compounds, caffeine, nicotine, etc. keep you 'up' and drinking past when your body should be telling you to stop.
As a direct result, binge drinkers die of alcohol poisoning every year in Asia - when it is time for the big crash, it really IS a 'BIG CRASH.'
Fair warning to the attentive . . .
G.

They have this new Honey and ginseng drink out by a company called Woongjin, it is good and comes in a nice drinkable 280ml bottle. Been downing at least one of these pups a day for about a month. Can't say that I have noticed any change in myself, but it sure is a refreshing drink. (No I am not being paid my these dudes.) |
