I have to go with my favourite team. I think they have learned how to win and I am itching for them to erase some of the pain and suffering the Pens have dealt to my team over the years. 
Washington's record against "elite" teams has been very, very good and I expect it to be a killer series. Washington was the better team during the regular season but only played Pittsburgh once under Bylsma. For reference of course since the regular season is now thrown out the window.
Ovechkin is a more complete player than either Crosby or Malkin. Backstrom is getting better and better and looking more and more like Forsberg. Semin is unreal. If he hadn't been injured he would have ended up with 100+ points. Mike Green was dominant as well but he didn't play spectacularly in the first round. I think he is injured in some way. I'd call it a wash here offensively though.
Like almost all series, it's going to come down to goaltending. If the 21 year old Varlamov can outduel Fleury then the Caps have an excellent shot at it. I think he can.
I am picking the Caps in 6. |

I want the Caps to win because I think they're funner to watch than the Pens are. But, the Pens play an interesting game as well, and I have no strong emotions about either team really, so I called the Penguins in seven in the Dave's hockey pool. This way I'm stoked either way, more or less, no matter what happens.
Should be a damn good series...I think you're right, Guri Guy, it'll probably come down to 'who's got the better goaltender?'
Honestly, I think it'll be Varlamov, this time. |

| Don't you mean Ovechkin vs Malkin? Malkin is leading in scoring (113), with Crosby coming in at a close third (103). Definitely excited for the series though. Pens in 6. |

Pittsburgh will win this one - experience counts for so much in the Stanley Cup playoffs.

That Backstrom makes some unbelievable plays. In that game against the Rangers where he got three or four assists, he was unreal. It's too bad that where I'm from we don't get to see the Capitals very often. The NHL really should get the Western Conference teams playing each Eastern Conference club twice per year.

both Crosby and Malkin have 4 assists, Crosby has 4 goals and Malkin has 5 goals in the playoffs thus far. it's hard to distinguish between these players in the playoffs.......which can be a much different creature than the regular season. speaking of which, Ovechkin has 3 goals and 4 assists in the playoffs which is less than Malkin or Crosby. suffice to say that all are doing well regardless of who has the most points thus far. there is a bit too much built up in the media (hey, it sells) as concerns Crosby vs Ovechkin, but what the hay....they're paid well so bring it on. it's interesting to note that they're both young players, Crosby 21 and Ovechkin 23. it'd be quite funny to see a surprise trade in a year or two that would bring them together....lol (not likely though). anyway, Crosby and Malkin were doing double duty last series to bring it home. of course hockey is a team effort, and other notable names get left out when hyping two individuals on opposing teams. most notably here, to me, is Semin (Backstrom has been mentioned) and Gonchar and Green for Pitts. the question is, can the rookie goaltender Varlamov keep them in the game? |

| It's in fact....lol I'm well aware of your animosity towards Crosby (among others) but are you trying to say he is not a factor, a major factor? maybe it's the Semin vs Malkin or Crosby show? (after all, Semin is outdoing Ovechkin in points, as you seem to be going on here) maybe it's washington vs pittsburgh show (no matter WHO tries to spin it the way they see). It's a friggin team sport for christ sakes! |

storyline game one was Varlamov vs. Malkin and Semin
but - man - game two WAS the Ovechkin vs. Crosby Show !!!!!!!!! 
Very rarely does the hype match the reality, but tonight it did. A game for the ages.
I'm really hoping this goes seven games as fitting for such a rivalry.
Two clubs loaded with young talent with impact veteran greats (Fedorov, Gonchar). No need to reduce it down to simplistic player versus player (except for tonight).
I haven't had this much fun watching a playoff series since New Jersey vs. Detroit pre-lockout. |

| Malkin has the odd game where he looks tired and does stupid stuff. This was one of those games. Ovechkin is a beast out there. |

his energy reminds me of Theo Fleury but his total package reminds me of the mid-90's style of Eric Lindros, Owen Nolan (in an age of Stevens and Peca monster hits)...
not a lot of physicality by comparison in the new NHL
the speed of the eighties and the hitting of the 70's and mid-90's, he is a throwback... |
