| Has anyone been hit with this request yet? I have checked the Canafdian Tax office website and got back 130 search results. Exactly what form is the Korean Tax office needing? |

I got a notice from GEPIK this morning asking for proof of residency.
It says:

Due to the request from the Korean National Tax Service, regardless whether one is object (here, it means SUBJECT, of course) to or exempt from, ALL Foreign Language Assistant Teachers in Kore must submit their proof of residency (PS) for all administeration (sic) related to tax purposes.
Countries object (here, I think they mean SUBJECT) to taxation: Canada, Ireland.
Countries exempt from taxation: Australia, England, U.S., South Africa, New Zealand.
Where to request for PS: Taxation office in one's home country (e.g. IRS for U.S. citizens)

I have been scouring the CDN. Tax office website and I have yet to find anything remotely close to this request.
Also, I have sent a question into the NTS here asking for specifics and am waiting to hear from them. |

I can't speak for Canada, but NZ has no such thing. My co-Teach managed to talk to tax guy into accepting my CRC, a it has my NZ address and the date on it.
It's one of those retarded catch 22 situations that arise when you have bureaucracies. Why your passport doesn't prove it is beyond me.
Also. it's a Korea Tax Service issue, and not a GEPIK thing. |

OKAY AN UPDATE:
My co-teacher just got off the phone with NTS and they said this proof of residency is NOT for CDNS, since they pay taxes here. IT IS FOR all teachers who are FROM countries who DO NOT pay taxes in Korea.
FOR Americans the form you are looking for is #8802 Application for United States Residency Certification (I have it right in front of me) |

I got the same request for a P.O.R. this morning.
I shot a couple of emails off to DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade), in both Seoul & Australia. If any Aussies specifically know who to contact, please post / advise here.
'administeration' would be 'administration', btw. |

Absolutely! What a royal pain in the ass. Redundancy at it's finest! I believe you are not technically a resident of certain countries unless you file income taxes within said country. I have been waiting for about 3 months for my U.S. documentation, the greatest worm hole in the universe. |

You could easily falsify that documentation. if you submit a #8802 to the Korean Gov't, they can easily verify it with the IRS. Listen, I understand it's a bunch of bullshit and it has nothing to do with taxes or earnings while you are hear in K-Land. It has to do with proving you have a residency in the U.S. I guess you could falsify a residency and acquire a passport etc., which could all be false. Acquiring and submitting an 8802 is counterfeit proof is guess? |

what if you've lived abroad for that long (in my case 2 years) and classified as no longer resident of your home country for tax purposes?
What am i supposed to do in that case if my PS asks? I take it I can't get some sort of form then from my Government (UK)....pardon the ignorance! |

I got this response from the Australian Consulate in Seoul:

Persons wishing to make a statutory declaration needs to bring his/her passport to the Australian Embassy, Consular Section (www.southkorea.embassy.gov.au) , and Consul/Vice Consul will be able to witness a statutory declaration.
The consular fee for statutory declaration fee is 19,000KRW per page.
p.s : The section 3 of a statutory declaration form should be leave blank until Consul/Vice Consul is present to witness it. |
So will GEPIK authorize time off, to go into Seoul, & will we be reimbursed the 38,000 won for 2 pages of SD's?

Too both of your posts, I do not know. You would have to have your co-teacher call in and discuss things with them.

Form 8802 is just the application form not the certificate, you submit the 8802 to the American IRS and when you get the cert. back you submit that to the NTS here.

Have your co-teacher call in and ask. i did, that is how I found out what I have told you.

| I don't think it is a good idea to ask your co-teacher. He/she is probably not going to have an answer. You have to fill out form 8802 and send it to the IRS. You can mail it with payment or fill it out online with payment. Either way, they will then send you an official document - The proof of residency. This document you submit to the POE or wherever it is supposed to go. I filled mine out about three months ago. Recieved a notice that the 8802 form was received and still waiting.......... |
