Have to give four 40 minute lessons on global warming to a class of intermediate level 6th graders. Anyone else have experience or ideas about what I should include in my lessons?
Thanks,
Blade. |

Explain why the proper pronoun should be used when shooting anyone who uses the term "carbon footprint". |

| Just tell them it is fake. Then find an old tractor tire and have a bonfire party! |

| Find some old maps of the Arctic ice cap, then show them what it looks like today with Google Earth. |

1st class - provide overview of issue including all the necessary vocabulary. Preview the assignment that will be worked on during the 2nd class.
2nd class - break the class up into groups and assign each group a specific effect of global warming. For example, one group might get how global warming will cause an increase in ocean levels thereby causing a loss of coastal areas. Another group might be assigned how global warming may reduce the number of species living in specific regions. The goal of each group is to become experts in this specific area and create a presentation for the 3rd week on the issue. You as the teacher may need to provide some data (if they dont have computer access.) You can print out various websites in advance.
3rd class - each group does a group presentation on their specific topic answering questions from their classmates.
4th class - give a quick review of each issue and provide a critical look at the arguments against global warming. |

Bring a small motorcycle into class.
Close all the doors and windows.
Tape all the seams shut.
Turn on the motor.
After several hours ask the students how they feel. |

You could use these short videos and make some simple worksheets to use with them.
PS they can be downloaded.
What ever you do make it fun |
