where's good electro here?

literally, where? I need directions.

(electro, for me= old drum machines, Kraftwerk-influenced stuff, 80's synths, + modern technology, etc. ie: The DMX Krew, Dynamix II, Drexciya, etc )

also, any cool ambient/chillout/"IDM" places would be nice.

thx

I have the map.. email me at [email protected] and I'll send it along.. It's in Korean, but it's pretty clear (at least as clear as a Hongdae map CAN be!)

Dubstep = Accomplice has left the country.

When did Accomplice leave? I played the Seoulsounds show with him a few years back.. good guy. Is Kaptain K (aka Captain Kirk) still in Korea?

Accomplice left less than a month ago.

I don't know if Kaptain K is still in Korea.

Your definition is similar to mine.

As far as I am aware nobody is playing anything that would be found in an electro purist's record bag. I can't recall ever seeing an international electro act being promoted here either.

IDM is also a rarity. Bits and pieces here and there but no dedicated nights or clubs.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If anyone is interested, I just posted my May promotional DJ mix.. some pretty cool tunes.. in the set is a Kings of Leon remix that I did with Dave Dresden.. it's supposed to be released soon, although, I'm not sure when the Kings of Leon's label plans to get it out! The mix is about 54 minutes of progressive house.. The final song on the set is a fantastic Armin van Buuren bootleg of The Killer's Human..

Here's the tracklisting:

David Vendetta: Bleeding Heart ft. Rachel Starr (Arno Cost RMX)
Alex Gold: Reaction (David Tort RMX)
DJ Exodus: *beep* Me (Jared D RMX)
Gabriel & Dresden: Enemy (Dave Dresden and Brian Dear RMX)
Signalrunners: Chicago (Dave Dresden and Brian Dear RMX)
Kings of Leon: Use Somebody (Dave Dresden and Brian Dear RMX)
Lily Allen: The Fear (Dresden and Johnston Alt. Vocal Dub RMX)
Armin van Buuren: Zocalo (Brian Dear re-edit)
The Killers: Human (Armin van Buuren bootleg)

Anyway, here's the link: http://web.me.com/superacidjax/Sparkling_Chaos/Music.html

You can listen on that page and/or you can click the little download button to download the 320kb, MP3 for your iPod.

Perhaps a few of you guys will like it!

Thanks for listening..

Ok people.. if anyone wants it, here's a link to download my DJ mix I made from inside the military hospital during my H1N1 vacation.. It's prog. house, upbeat and I dare say might even inspire some dancing. Listen loud. Enjoy it!

If you don't want to download but would like to listen over the web, visit the music portion of my blog here:

The download link is good for 7 days.

This thread is a godsend! I was gonna start my own topic and then I found this one.
I listen mostly to electro or what some would call electro-house. Examples would be Justice, Sebastian, Boys Noize, Soulwax, MSTRKRFT, Simian Mobile Disco, I could go on. I'm not sure if I will find many venues playing this in Seoul.
I also like other genres like Dnb, Industrial, Progressive House and some Trance.
I should be arriving in Seoul in July. I'm bummed because I will miss out on this electro festival in LA in August: http://hardfest.com/

Anyways, I would like to meet people with similar music interests when I arrive in Seoul. Going to j-pop or karaoke bars with coworkers and friends would bore me to tears.

Haha, I just read through this topic and was like what the fook no mention of global gathering?!

I wanna see Prodigy just for the fact the last time I had the opportunity the tent was packed out and I couldn't get near it. Problem is they're on Friday and work is messing things up for me.

drum n bass - used to be at cargo in hongdae, now the only place is probably in itaewon at the hive.

techno - if you follow the awake parties (look for it on facebook) you can find a group of djs who play newer stuff (imo koreans tend to go for the harder stuff that was in 5 years ago).

idm - there are random shows here and there, i just spun a glitch-hop set in hongdae and have been looking for more gigs, but koreans loooove the house.

electro - do you mean old school electro or electro house? korea has a lot of electro house but not much of the old school 808 stuff.

dubstep - you can hear it sometimes at the drum n bass nights here and there.

check out "the hive" - http://thehiveuniverse.blogspot.com/
it's probably the most diverse and progressive in terms of styles of music. the people who run the place book live acts and djs from all over the world in all styles of electronic music.

Went to GG Saturday night and I had a decent time but I must say the behavior of other foreigners there was despicable. Waygooks pushing and shoving up in the front rows yelling at the artists that "they suck" amongst other annoying things. I can only imagine what some of the Koreans thought as the shirt-less frat boy ran up on stage during MSTRKRFT.

Like another poster on here said somewhere, some people act like living here is a continuation of their undergrad/frat party days. Rolling Eyes

People getting drunk on a Saturday night misbehaving a bit, despicable!

Have you ever been to a festival in your home country? Festivals = debauchery.
