My school is a public school (I am in a public after school program) and they have told me they can not pay until I have my alien card. Is this true or what is going on?

Well, they probably can't legally pay you if you don't have an alien registration card, and I'm surprised that they have let you work without one - unless it's somehow not required for part-time afterschool programs (which doesn't seem right...)

You need an ARC card to open a bank account, and if they are only willing to pay into a Korean bank account then you need it. However, after you get your ARC card I have never experienced schools needing to keep it.

The sound of your thread title makes it seem like they want to keep it, but I don't think that is what you intended. Sometimes, schools try to keep a teacher's diploma.

I did but it won't be ready until next week and I should be paid the 17th.

They don't want to keep the card or diploma (I wouldn't let them if they tried). I have my own bank account from my previous job and they have my account info to deposit money.

They told me a foreigner needs an ARC to have pension and taxes taken out of the salary.

You can take your contract and your passport to the bank to open an acct. I did at KB and they make copies of both and I got an atm card..and passbook..and no ARC yet. It arrived today said the delivery service..to the school.

I got paid last week for 10 days.

All they need is you ARC number. If you know it, just tell them and let them take it from there.

I have a bank account already (I have had for over 7 months). I have no ARC and no ARC number. I applied but it won't be ready until the 21st and I should be paid the 17th. I began working the 13th of LAST month.

Do they need an ARC to pay an employee?

First, the post about needing an ARC to open a bank account is false. You CAN open a bank account with just a passport. I've done it at 3 different banks.

Second, and cruisemonkey probably knows more on this than me, but can't they just pay you without taking out the pension this month then just take it out from the next months and backpay everything they owe after you get the ARC? I'm pretty sure they have up until the 4 month mark until they need to ABSOLUTELY enroll you in the pension program

asams, you are right. I was mistaken. However, I do want to note that when you go to a bank to do stuff besides the usual withdrawals, they always ask for an ARC card. That's where the mixup is. It also makes the process easier if you have your ARC card.

I did get my first bank account open without an ARC card now that I remember.
