I'll be fresh off 17 hours of aviation excitement, but I'll be here:
Saturday, Joker Red Hongdae, tech/prog house show (great DJs..)
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=80483947629&ref=nf
Friday, Club Vera, Hongdae, Scott Pullen (Aussie DJ)..
I can't make it to this one on Friday, but my friend with Urban Events/Seoul Vibes is putting it on.. should be fun (if you want to get in for free, pm me for a guest list spot):

Finally, a super awesome show Saturday at the Walkerhill.. It's expensive (50Kwon) but it's Marcus Schulz (he's amazing if you're into prog-house/trance/Tiesto/Paul van Dyk-style stuff)

He's number 8 in the world DJ rankings.. I highly recommend the show. I would go, but I'm going to be coming off of a rough flight and want to see some of my old DJ friends at the Joker Red show..
Either way, if you like dance music, this should be a great weekend.. Don't forget to message me if you want to be on the guest list for the Friday show.. |

quoted for truth bro.
I love the DJ ranking system. "He's the number 8 DJ in the world." Who decides the rankings? Imagine this...."Come see In Flames!!! They are the number 17 metal band in the world." |

It's petty metalheads -vs- stuck up DJs! Fight!
Why does everything music-related turn into a pissing contest? |

I think it's because they feel insecure about their own tastes in music. I could care less about defending my own tastes, because I don't care what people think about them. |

I would love to see you stand behind the decks with 1,000 people staring up at you waiting for you to "push a button." I'm sure your Molly Hatchet boxset would knock 'em dead. |

I think the button you're looking for is > 'play'. |

Yeah. Play. That's the button. Pffft. Perhaps you should start your own thread called, "Metal bands playing this weekend." That would then allow people that gave a flying ___ about it to read the information and be happy.
Metal.. really hard to play. I can play three chords through a Marshall too. BFD.
We can both be childish and insult each other's genre's of choice, but what good is that? It's ALL MUSIC. Perhaps think of supporting each other's scenes instead of just ignorantly insulting them. It's all about getting out and having a good time right?
The ignorance about DJing and production isn't surprising. People think "uh, it's just, uh, like, uh, pushing a button, uh." Whatever, until you've been there and done it in front of a hyped-up crowd of hundreds of people demanding the perfect mix, then you really can't say anything about it. There's a lot more to it than just pushing a button, just like there's more to rock than three chords and some long-haired dude screaming.
I'd like to hear how well one of the metal band members can produce a track that makes girls dance. Or even mix the two perfect songs (for the crowd at that moment) together in the proper key at just the right moment with the phrases lined up and the energy at a peak and the beats perfectly in sync..
As far as the ranking system, you obviously don't know a thing about it, so why are you even commenting? I didn't start this thread spouting ignorance about your music, so why do it to others? How many records have the bands playing at your show on the 16th sold? Just one of the artists playing at one of the shows I listed sold over 1 million. And no, it wasn't just "pushing buttons" unless you call producing an album "pushing buttons." So obviously people like e-music and obviously people like rock and metal.
I fully respect your choice in music and would even support your scene by going to shows, but how about you showing others some courtesy? Rather than tear down something you obviously don't understand, perhaps you might open your damned mind. If childish BS is what I would expect at one of your events, then I'll gladly stay away. Perhaps if you weren't such a snot about it, maybe you might actually attract people that might not normally go.
It seems like my biggest complaint with many of the foreigners in Seoul is their cliquish provincialism. They stay hung up in their little world and enjoy lashing out at anyone not in their circle of interests. The foreign teacher community would be so much nicer if people would have an open mind. We get enough crap from the Koreans, why add to it?
By the way, just because a band has "real singers" doesn't mean they're any good. I've heard enough bad bands in my day to make my ears bleed. I used to play in one that had an exceptionally bad singer. I think that's what scared me off of rock..
I hope your rock show goes great, enjoy your evening. And for those who want to see some button pushers with absolutely no musical skill whatsoever, I'll see you at Joker Red Saturday.. |
