Last year I tried unsuccessfully to put together a Fantasy Football league for expats in Korea. Not to be deterred, this year I will start early and not rest until I find enough players to start a league! Hence the early start in the recruitment process.

I won't get too much into the details of the league as it is only those who are already missing Fantasy Football who would be interested and so I don't really need to explain the ins and outs of how it works. But the basics would be a Yahoo.com run league, with an online draft set on a Saturday in mid-August in the evening at a time that everyone in the league agrees to.

I would be flexible with regard to whether we played points per catch or fractional points or TD only, etc. It would depend on what other people thought, but it would probably work best to just use the default settings unless there were a rule or two that everyone agreed on.

Same goes with the number of teams....I think that we'd need a minimum of 8 teams, but it would depend on how many people there were as to how many teams were in the league. I know that some people prefer bigger leagues and some prefer smaller leagues, but it would all depend on how many interested parties there are.

Money....you have to play for money. For two reasons....1. it's WAY more fun if there is a real tangible prize to win at the end, and 2. if you don't have to bet something then people lose interest and stop taking it seriously when their team starts out 0-3. When people don't change their line-up and leave in injured players or players on bye then it isn't fair for the other teams in the league. When you're fighting for a playoff spot and the guy you need to lose is playing someone who hasn't logged in since week 5 then its completely unfair. At any rate....I think that 20,000 per team should be the minimum amount to keep people interested and to have a decent prize at the end (I would be willing to go as high as 50,000 each if there were enough takers to do the same). I personally prefer winner take all, but I would be open to other formats as well, especially if we had 10 or more teams, then we could have prizes for best record, most points, superbowl runner up, etc. Again, this would all depend on who was interested....but you do have to play for something or it just doesn't work.....so, how would the money work? Everyone would bank transfer the money to me before they would get the password to log in and create their team....people don't pay after the season when they lose, this is just a fact. So then I would keep the money in my account and then transfer the money to the winner after the season. Now...before this post is bombarded with idiots who think that I am trying to scam people out of money....those of you who don't trust me obviously aren't going to ever trust me and aren't going to play....those of you who DO enjoy Fantasy Football know exactly what I am talking about with regards to needing a cash prize for it to be fun and that people need to pay up front or they won't pay. I AM NOT GOING TO STEAL YOUR MONEY, that is that. I have a job, as do you. If you don't want to play then don't play, if you do want to play you can trust that I will indeed transfer the prize money to the winner.

About the prize money....for those of you who would like to play but may be leaving Korea before the end of the NFL season. I am willing to transfer the prize money internationally, of course minus the transaction fee. I will pay the cheon won transaction fee for a domestic transfer, but an international transfer would come out of your winnings.

So...you're interested? What next?....just send me your contact details via email to [email protected] If you'd like you can give me an idea of the type of scoring you prefer to play with and an idea of how much money you'd be willing to bet, as well as what kind of pay-out scheme you prefer. I will create a folder in my email inbox of people who are interested and re-post on here every so often until I have found enough players. Then I will contact everyone who was interested come early August and we can work out all of the exact details together via e-mail.

Cool...if you guys are interested then shoot me off an email. I am compiling a list of everyone's email who is interested in the league and then this summer I will put together a group email and we can all make the final decisions on which web-site to use, as well as how much to bet, scoring system, pay-out, etc. I am hoping to get around 15 names as most likely 2-3 people will say they are in and then change their mind.

A quick update...it sounds like most everyone so far would be keen on putting up 50,000 won. So most likely that will be the bet. But I think that with that much prize money that we'd at least have a prize for 2nd place as well.

Also...I have been asked whether or not we could use a fantasy football escrow web-site to hold the money, such as leaguesafe.com, but the problem is that you can't transfer funds to these sites from your Korean bank account, and in general they pay you out your winnings either via check, or bank transfer within the US. This obviously creates a problem when all of us live in Korea. I can not re-iterate enough that your money would be 100% safe.

I'm in IF you have a minimum of 12 teams.. 14's even better.

and performance scoring, rather than just basic scoring.

it's a good thing you're thinking ahead and setting this up early, instead of last year's at the last minute deal..

btw.. you can easily set up a draft online.. I run a league of expat guys (14 teams) and have guys in Thailand, India, Europe and Indonesia participating Smile, so obviously online is the way to go in such an instance.

anyways - at least 12 teams. performance scoring and I'm in.

having a flex player in addition to the usual qb, 2rb, 3wr, te, k and d starting roster would also be nice Smile

So far it's looking good...I have about 14 people interested, but would like a few more as I assume at least 2-3 people will change their mind, or won't be able to make the draft time, or whatever.
