Joo, why don't you give a brief summary of what you were trying to bring to our attention. Then highlight a few key passages, providing a link in case we want to investigate it more deeply. I doubt that anyone bothered to read such a long quote. I didn't even attempt the first sentence! |
Joo doesn't seem to get this and believes his Argumentum Verbosium will convince someone. |

OK, firstly have you any evidence to support your thesis?
And secondly how would this explain those clerics who have condemned terrorism in languages that mostly only Muslims speak? |
Well first we could quantify the number of people who have taken to the streets over Islam being defamed by such things as Cartoons in Newspapers or supposed stories about the Koran being flushed down the toilet in Cuba. We could then compare this to the number of muslims who have taken to the streets worldwide to protest against Osama Bin Laden. There have been fatawas issued against Osama in Spain but nowhere near the numbers of protesters in the streets especially on a world wide level.
Secondly I don't think it's a good idea to turn off you critical thinking just because some says that they "condem terrorism".. because with the other hand they might just be giving money to the terrorists. This has happened before. Look at that nutball professor in Florida.
Lastly you should also be aware of the fact that some Muslims, like Tariq Ramadan, are very good at saying one thing in English and another in Arabic. Heck enough so that someone would write a book about it.(Yasser Arafat also comes to mind here.) http://www.amazon.com/Brother-Tariq-Doublespeak-Ramadan/dp/1594032157
This could be attributed to a 'know your audience' type of thing, but when dealing with evangelists or salesmen, be critical. |

There is a 300 word limit when it comes to posting from articles or newspapers. If it went somewhat above that, that may be fine, but it seems like many on this forum are posting double that amount or more.
It's hard to enforce such things. We ask you to try to not go over say 300-400 words and then post the URL.
Thank you.... |
Crikey. I can't be bothered to read even one word of it. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long!

The record on that Cleric is so long , that really it speaks for itself.
As I said above three of the Clerics that Cole mentioned have a history of inciting violence and / or bigotry. Which is is just evidence of a very serious problem. After they have helped encourge that sort of stuff with their sermons so what if someone condemns 9-11?
and I did provide a link.
moreover the quote on Yusuf al-Qaradawi wasn't really that long, but his record when you see it speaks for itself , that is why it is best to go right to the record. One really wouldn't know where to start with him and I wanted to be sure not to leave anything out about him.

That is rich coming from someone who thinks that Hizzbollah's war is justified.
War to steal oil would have been wrong , but it is not wrong to force mideast regimes and elites to stop inciting violence , teaching hate and funding Al Qaeda.
And were it not for US actions Saddam would have killed off the Kurds and attacked Kuwait again. Those lives count too. |

Joo's nonexistent Argumentum Verbosium would only work on silly, stupid people.*
*since you neglect to argue against his assertion, most probably because you don't understand it, your weak retort speaks for itself. Instead you rely on ad hominem and straw man attacks. Hooray for you. |

Of course I am not going to argue against it; it was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long for him to post, and hence for me to read.
Now who's doing the ad hominems? You, and that is all Joo does, post way too long articles, label people, or attack the messenger.
Not surprising you wouldn't get the irony. |

From the article that started this thread.
| Quote: |
The Algerian government fought a virtual civil war to put down political Islam, in which over 100,000 persons died. The Egyptians jailed 20,000 or 30,000 radicals for thought crimes and killed 1500 in running street battles in the 1990s and early zeroes. Al-Qaeda can't easily strike in the Middle East precisely because Syria, Egypt, Algeria, etc. have their number and have undertaken massive actions against them... |
Please complain to the author. |

Reminds me of the old Fugs song:
| Quote: |
Kill, kill, kill for peace
Kill, kill, kill for peace
In the near and the far and the middle east
Kill, kill, kill for peace... |

You ought to say that the US ought to allow Bathists , Khomeni followers and Al Qaedists to do whatever they want and that the US ought not trade or have diplomatic ties with anyone they object to , and not vote at the UN in anyway that offends them cause they blow stuff up when they don't get their way.
And since Bin Laden blames the US for low oil prices perhaps the US ought not invest in alternative energy either. |
