The job I start working at this summer is paying me $38 million won a year. At home, this would be a pretty average salary. Because the school pays for my apartment, I figure I'll save a bit of money...or maybe even a lot? Is 38 million a year considered average or high in Korea?

So after whipping out the ole calculator, you'd be making 3.17 per month, which sounds like a princely sum among NETs.

'A lot' of money is always twice as much as I have... unless I have nothing. Wink

OP, don't forget you're paying 3.3 percent tax! That's what makes a difference!

A lot of money = what my wife and I make before the tax man, pension, her mother's allowance, and other expenses eat into our earnings!

REALLY a lot of money = what my brother-in-law makes as the international manager in charge of overseas operations for a Fortune 500 company. His bonuses equal his regular 6-digit salary. Confused

My father said, "He makes a lot of money, which is good, because your sister sure can spend it!"

My friend who never went to college makes more money as a concert promoter than anyone I know. Of course, he got the job because of who he knows not what he knows. I think he clears close to a mil with bonuses.

It's all relative. I was making around 4.5 million a month at my last job (no apartment, but still) and while I felt it was a good amount of money, it was never enough- I kept saying "if only I made 6 million."

I've taken a significant pay cut at my current job, but the 3 months of vacation makes it worthwhile. Cool Provided I can live well enough and save, vacation is more important to me.

One billion won a year is a lot of money, but more realistically, I'd say about 100 million won a year is a lot of money.

Thirty-eight million a year ain't too shabby, though.
