Here is a summary of the Patient's Choice Act put together by a few Republican Senate and House members. Agree or not with what it contains, alternative proposals by Republican legislators is certainly better than simply opposing Democrat-proposed legislation.

A few tid bits from the summary:

PCA wrote:
Prevention largely requires individuals to adopt healthy lifestyles and
behaviors. This can be accomplished without creating more government agencies and programs, but by providing science-based
recommendations directly to individuals.

Under this Act, CDC will ensure the establishment of a web-based prevention tool that would create a personalized prevention plan
for individuals based upon personal health and family history, body mass index, and other individualized health factors.

...

Seniors who adopt healthier behaviors would be rewarded with lower Medicare premiums.

...

States that demonstrate the greatest progress in reducing disease rates and risk factors and also increasing healthy behaviors could be awarded federal Wellness Bonus Grants.

...

Additionally, junk food that does not meet nutrition standards would be prohibited for purchase under the federal Food Stamp Program.

...

Americans would get an individual tax rebate to purchase health insurance. The Medi-Choice rebate, worth about $2,300 for individuals and about $5,700 for families, combined with higher wages would give individuals a wide variety of health care options. The Act would require transparency from employers regarding the value of health benefits that could equal higher employee wages.

And so forth; the summary is reasonably long.

I don't have a quarrel with the above, but I sure didn't see much in the way of real proposals in the list provided. (Not enough time to read the link yet.)

I'm not sure how setting up a web page with info that can already be gotten on the web...and a lot of other places, will go very far in fixing the health care problem. It isn't a terrible idea, but just fails to address the problem. Everyone's sky-high prices are the result of people living a bad lifestyle? I don't think so. That is more 'blame the victim' thinking.
