I don't get this line of thinking..It's like people who say that they know me and then when I don't act or do things the way they thing I should, they say "well that's out of character for you." ....Pine was under enough pressure to act like Kirk without doing a Shattner impersonation. Some more flair would have been nice but then critics would be screaming the he's just and imitator. |

I'm not sure I get your line of thinking. It's not valid for people to say something is out of character for you? Are you denying the existence of character altogether?
I agree it's a no-win situation for the actor to some extent, but I think when people criticize an actor for an impersonation it's generally only if it's a bad impersonation. When Jamie Fox did Ray, he did a good impersonation and I don't recall him getting bad press. |

I'm sorry to say that the Director can do whatever he/she wants to do with them.
Gene Roddenberry is the only person that could say what they could and couldn't do with Star Trek. |

I'm not denying the existence of Character..I'm just saying it's very malleable....
Again.....Pine needed some more flair for his Kirk, but other than that he did a good job... |

Loved it. Saw it twice last week. Will buy the dvd.
This one, Star Trek the Motion Picture, the Wrath of Khan, the Undiscovered Country, and First Contact make up my top five Star Trek films. |

| Just saw it yesterday finally. Totally enjoyed it. Thought the Bones character was awesome. I see the original McCoy in him. |

| I really liked it. As a picky moviegoer, I don't see a lot of the foreign films brought to SK simply because they are crap blockbusters. A couple of friends persuaded me to go with them last week and I loved it. My previous knowledge of Star Trek had been the funny uniform/costumes and the "live long and prosper" quote. Even though I can't see myself rushing out to watch the other films or read the books, I would definitely watch a sequel in a heartbeat. It was a fun, well-made film. |

I loved the movie. So many references to the original, some subtle but most not. I also loved when the red shirt jumped down with two established characters. Kirk and Sulu just looked at him like, "you know your gonna die, don't you".
The time travel did give them license to do it all again without messing up the original. But the best time travel is when the time travel itself is consistent, even necessary, for the already established past events. Like in the Harry Potter. Harry and Hermione are in Hagrid's house and get hit with rocks thrown from outside. They go outside and Hermione sees something in the bushes. Then later, they go back in time and it is Hermione who throws the rock that hits them and it is Hermione who the first Hermione saw in the bushes. No "alternate universes", just good consistent time travel. I'm sure there are some details not quite right, but that is a much more satisfying time travel (and maybe even possible!) |

I think that is a little bit of an oxymoron. Good plots are for books. Movies are all about 2 hours of mindless entertainment. |

A movie doesn't need an amazing plot to be great. I think the plot was decent, and considering how great every other aspect of the film was, it was certainly adequate. Haven't seen a sci-fi film this awesome since Serenity. |

The Wrath of Khan...hell yeah...and First Contact totally.... undiscovered country was really good, but not so sure about the motion picture (why?)...need to watch it again... |
