why not?

Common decency? Having some class? Not being a Summer's Eve product?

You mean decency like Christianna showed in her attack on the pages of tbe KH? She is a public figure, deal with it. Maybe she should have thought twice before writing that racist, disgusting attack.

Nothing comes up on Facebook when I click on that link. Nice try, Christianna

Uhhh, that's what private means. Also, if you don't have an FB account, my account doesn't show up in a search. It's to keep weirdos like you away from me. You can search my friends though, all five hundred of them, most from the Midwest, and figure out that I didn't make some stupid fake page.

Point proven.

Actually, the quality of my facebook friends is above average. Thanks for your unsolicited opinion. The only reason I threw that number out there is because I know the next response in this paranoid place would be "Christianna just made up a fake page...blah blah blah" and I'm not even trying to deal with that BS.

Really, 3M? Are you really going to get your panties in a bunch because she simply said, "Foreigners are the worst thing about Korea, and I tend to agree?" What about what you said regarding Thailand?

Quote:
Thailand is the land of fake smiles and crooks. There are so many thieves there who try to con you at every step. It seems as if ripping off a foreigner is some kind of a national past time. What utter hypocrisy that the land of thieves and crooks, pimps and whores...

Seems your disgust at racism only extends itself when you think someone might be including you in a negative remark. Just a thought.

Wow. The internet is cool. In 6 pages of thread we have degenerated to facebook stalking and hurling personal insults in a case of a poor choice of words and editing. We even got one guy insulting the girl's weight (totally relevant, way to raise the level of discourse buddy!) Girl wrote a foolish statement, we all didn't like the foolish statement, paper apologized for missing and printing said foolish statement, end of story. Read the paper still or don't but either way, let's try to act like grown ups here.

Christianna made a blanket statement. I qualified my remarks. Are you going to argue that there arent a lot of crooks in Thailand? That there arent a lot of people trying to rip you off? Ever been to Thailand? I didnt say all Thais were crooks, I said a lot of them were, whch is very true. Try going there and see for yourself. Chriatianna made a bloanket statement about all foreigners being the worst thing in Korea.

WHAT THE HECK? THE number of facebook friends is now an issue? It like two 6 year olds "my dad can beat up your dad."

Apparently you didn't catch the direct parallel between my statement regarding the weight of Ms. Lee and/or her friends and her opinion of foreigners (which, as a gyopo, she is a part of).

Hit 'em where it hurts, right? Negative remarks about foreigners tend to be hurtful to immigrants/migrant workers. A low blow for a low blow.

Now one of her sorority sisters (or whatever) is on her defense. Why doesn't she herself come out and offer an explanation or apology instead of some hussy testifying as to her character?

ps. chalk up my remarks to poor word choice/editing.

You guys are definitely right in that it should not have been printed.

I am trying to make content for expats in Korea and this was something that slipped by me. I read dozens of articles and columns every day and I skimmed over that one at too fast a pace.

Christianna means well in her usual column when she writes about arts in Korea, mostly Daegu (which is seriously underrepresented in media).

I work hard to keep generalizations of all kinds out of Expat Living (unlike another English newspaper). There is so much good that expats in Korea do, and there is so much in Korea to see and experience -- and that is my focus.

In short, I am sorry and this will not happen again.

The KH should refuse her articles in future. There is no place for this in a foreigner targeted newspaper.

Actually, the worst part of the quote comes after the foreigner bit:

"So thank you Korea for opening your beautiful country and culture to us expats- such a wayward and funny bunch - and allowing us to live our lives anew in your land."

How pathetically self-hating and brown-nosing is that?

If you don't understand how racist this statement is, let me demonstrate by tweaking the wording just a little bit.

"The worst thing about New York City are the Italians."

"The worst thing about Texas are the Mexicans."

"The worst thing about Little Tokyo are the Koreans."

"The worst thing about Koreatown are the Pakistanis."

"The worst thing about Mississippi are the Negroes."

"The worst thing about Romania are the Gypsies."

"The worst thing about Yugoslavia are the Muslims."

"The worst thing about Germany are the Jews."

This thread should have ended right here unless the writer came on to personally apologize. Great post Troll Bait. A person of a particular ethnicity goes back to the motherland and opines that the worst thing about her motherland is the foreigners. Disgusting.

True, except that the paper did NOT print an apology for the article. If they have, and I missed it, I would love to see a link.

Nah. They make good food and keep the cost of produce down.

The worst thing about Texas is the damn rich yanks posing as red-blooded Texans in order to save money on taxes. Ought to be strung up by their ankles, flogged, and fed to the kai-yotes!

It was maybe the worst, the most racist, the most disgusting thing Ive ever read in a newspaper here in Korea in the 8 years Ive been here. How anyone could write such a thing without gagging from the putrid racism is beyond me. How anyone could defend the writer is also beyond me. How the KH could print it and then not apologize for it, is waaaaay beyond me. How Lamers could consider himself a professional editor when he took no action to rectify this is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma.

-people will always defend 'the asian american girl' because she isn't scary. Nobody will defend stormfront or the KKK cause they will come over and kick your a** or burn a cross in your front yard or something. In otherwords, racism is just a lot less offensive when it comes from a petite angry asian UCLA student than a 6'10" AB member with a sawed off shotgun in his trunk.
-Life is an inevitable double standard.
