|
|
My friend dates a guy who owns a hagwon. She said that the gov't called them yesterday to confirm if their new teacher has arrived (he/she hasn't), and if they're still coming. The reason was because of the Swine Flu epidemic. Apparently, the gov't is keeping close tabs on all teachers arriving from overseas.
I sure wouldn't want to be a new teacher coming in at this point. |

Update:
The gov't called them twice, and said they are telling all schools to keep their teachers in a homestay/quarantine situation for a week after arriving.
Nice. |

I talked to a friend of mine who is a manager of a hagwon and she was keeping busy dealing with all of the parents inquiring about the flu and how safe their kids were.
I've had a bit of a cold this week but nothing serious, I'll just be sure to hold my coughs at work! |

What about all those so-called white tourists that come in to teach illegaly?
Supposedly, there are more illegal teachers than illegal ones and since they didn't bother having more control over the hagwon industry then they can only check on those who are legal. My students know I have a cold, but that's not a big deal. It's just a regular cold. I am not coughing up a storm or something. I wasn't in Seoul, didn't meet any new teachers or whatever. I do feel bad for new teachers coming in. This really sucks, you know. I am sure some people also wish they never took a nice vacation in Mexico and all.
I heard a hotel in Hong Kong got a huge scare when a guy from Mexico who was sick ended up there. |

I had an illegal teacher come in Saturday and he had no problem getting through. Perhaps they are actually targeting those who are sick (high fever, etc). |

A university around here is putting teachers who have arrived from (among other places) the US and Japan into a seven-day quarantine before they can start teaching. They have also limited options for summer vacation:
Quote: |
Entrants into Korea from areas with a relatively high incidence of H1N1 (namely, Mexico, USA, Canada, UK, Spain, Japan) are prohibited from reporting to their workplace (in this case, _____________________) for seven days after entry, until the H1N1 incubation period has passed.
These MEST directives are in effect until further notice, and the list of affected countries is subject to change. This will effect those planning to travel outside of Korea during the summer vacation period. |
