I'm a public school teacher. Recently Ive been getting offers to work a few hours a month for hogwons. The pay being offered is really good yet I don't want to jeopardize getting caught. I know we are allowed to work privately or for other schools with permission from our school principal, however, I think if I ask for permission my principal might distrust me or think that I have bad intentions. Any advice/thoughts?

Good luck.

I've done the same in the past, and the school turned around and complained that I wasn't working enough if I wanted to ask for more hours. They wanted to increase hours without extra pay.

The bolded part is incorrect (for E-2 visa holders). Your principal's permission does not trump Immigration's regulations. You may not work privately if you are on an E-2 visa. Period.

As for working for other schools (that is true only if you wish to work for another PUBLIC school. Generally speaking you are not allowed to work at both a public school and a hakwon. Immigration though would have the final say on that and NOT your principal.
