Those old ladies will throw anything in a boiling pot as they come from a great depression like era where they used every little thing they had. I see these old ladies spending many hours picking tiny weeds and going over it all with find tooth comb. They'll weasel up anything they can to make a boiling pot of something out of. I honestly don't think they're very good cooks, but they're survivalists; not chefs cooking for those with an affinity for good food. I do appreciate how they peel all the garlic for you though.

My wife ate a bag of those in red sauce when she was pregnant. Something I'm not willing to get over.

Be careful if you go to a fried rice joint in Taiwan. The one I used to go to had free soup that you could help yourself to. I thought I'd scoop as low as I could in the large pot to get some of the chunky stuff and came up with a chicken head.

when i was young chicken feet were labeled free at the butcher and supermarket counters

then an economic downturn hit the province and suddenly it cost a buck for a package of chicken legs (at exactly the time it should start being free, but i guess when demand goes up then price is added because sales suddenly guarranteed)

my father used to make a great chicken feet stew which i ate, though the one thing remaining at the end in my bowl was the feet themselves: just couldn't do it (but it did flavour the whole stew, the veggies and spices and potatoes).

what i really stay away from (though the broth is awesome) is pigs' feet stew, i mean, that is just dirty and gross!! (i eat cow tongue and brain burgers, but not pigs' feet - draw my line at that)

well, have to put in my two cents. i grew up going to chinese restaurants all the time back in canada, so i've had the fortune of trying them out. the sauce is just amazing, but you do have to get use to the fact that your eating the skin off the feet of a chicken. don't knock it until you try it.
