Captain - I suppose with your nick it's unsurprising you favour all things Korean.
I didn't say they spat on me, you understand metaphor don't you?
Let's say they began to literally spit on me, because they felt I was unwilling to register my disapproval of their childish antics, would you suppose I'd have mistaken it for a leaking roof instead?!!
The point I'm making is they were taking the mick, and deserved an appropriate response, a verbal response.
If the same thing happened in the U.K., I'd raise the issue in the same way. I didn't say anything offensive really.
I've had enough experience of various Koreans behaving badly, I don't consider myself to live in Disneyland, to think some Koreans take the mick out of foreigners, even when they are right up close to them. |
Actually, I think this is a better example of a foreigner acting badly. |

| I still haven't figured out if fromtheuk is for real, or a crafty, cunning troll. If a troll, I must admit, I am often taken in by his antics...if he is for real...I wonder why he hasn't been taken out of the gene pool yet. I mean, I get the impression he is youngish, but even still, surviving to 25-ish? Yeah, a freakin' miracle. |
I used to think the same way until I saw the youtube video, and then I realized he is for real.
fromtheuk, you must realize when the average Joe like myself gets pointed and laughed at on the odd occasion for just being a foreigner, you must think to yourself how the Koreans see you with your shaven head and flowing beard. I have no problem with how you look, but to them it might border on freak show.
We all know Koreans can be rude and low class with their manners towards foreigners, but why take the bait? just pretend they don't exist, I can't imagine more of a put down than pretending someone who is talking to you doesn't even exist.
You might have to think about ordering curries that are home delivered, so that's another way where you don't have to expose yourself to Korean society. |

No, I think to respond in kind on occasion is necessary, I suppose to be captain of the nation disqualifies your neutrality on the issue.
Kurtz - I avoid most people like the plague including Koreans, but I treat myself to a nice meal outside of the home, once a week. That won't change, but if I feel someone is going too far, I will respond in some form.
I understand how Koreans may perceive me, but every human knows what basic manners are and what is rude.
This exists wherever you go, the Brits in Britain go to an Indian restaurant and behave awfully sometimes, in a 'colonial' fashion. It makes them feel powerful. I think this Korean guy was trying to do something similar to that.
I like to enjoy my Chicken curry in peace. |

Since when are manners universal? |

Wow. Racist much? How is this not ban worthy?
Fromtheuk: those fellas were idiots - particularly considering a) they were patronising a restaurant where much of the clientele and staff were likely to be Muslim and b) the Indonesian guy should be more than familiar with Islamic dress codes... |

I'm sure that by posting those photos, JB was making no reference to anyone's race, but was rather mocking their long beards and funny hats. This would therefore make JB a beardist, or funny-hattist. (I too am probably guilty of being one)
So calm down. |

So why did he post photos of Muslim extremists? Why not just some random chaps with beards and "funny hats" (a lovely way to refer to a symbol of one's religion)? |

| Ah, so you went from "racism" to "muslimism", with a hint of "hat-ism"! I believe that JB was simply pointing out that if fromtheuk even REMOTELY resembled the two gentlemen with beards and funny hats (I have no idea why JB would think this), then it is only natural that fromtheuk should EXPECT free people to be surprised at his sight. In other words, fromtheuk simply asks for it. |

Kimbop - It seems you have 'discrimination' issues. Having a beard is part of being Muslim. To suggest I'm asking for ridicule for having a beard is ridiculous.
I think ZZ Top have massive beards, does that entitle them to be made fun of, by virtue of having facial hair?
Or would you prefer women to have beards instead?!!
Do you think Black people were 'asking for it' when burned alive by the KKK? According to your logic, they may have asked for it for walking around with black skin.
Do you think anybody with a beard, regardless of their beliefs, are entitled to abuse? If your answer is yes, it's a waste of time to discuss this with you.
If your Sister was sexually assaulted for wearing a short skirt, would you say she was asking for it Kimbop?!!
Let's see how consistent you are. |

Full beards are more ridiculous than being clean shaven. Ask your Korean students. Ask a Korean grown-up... heck, ask anyone. And your beard is YOUR personal choice. I know many unbearded muslims.

I s'pose they are kinda goofy lookin'! And I guarantee you that they would not mind if someone snikkered at them!

your CHOOSING to grow a long hairy beard will ensure that girls avoid you and that Koreans may laugh at you. You've validated this. That's all I'm saying.
Don't post silly comments about skin color.

Dare me to put up a poll? You are 36. You have a long hairy beard. And you are very sensitive about people who make fun of you, oddly enough. A) Not many 36 year-olds in the free world have big beards, B) The 1% who do have beards, put up with this much better than you obviously do:

Your logic lacks consistency. Why on earth would my sister be assaulted for wearing a short skirt??
If you want to meet girls and avoid ridicule, I advise you to shave your beard. I'll be happy to meet you in Itaewon with a trimmer. Simply send me a PM. |

I can only conclude you're from the USA. Why? You seem to think by shouting loudly and avoiding specific answers, you are somehow convincing.
If you ever meet me in Itaewon, I'll be happy to give you a handbag, because I'd think you're a girl without a beard.
Honestly, your views are absurd. As adults, having a beard isn't a big deal. Yes, it is uncommon, but it is not worthy of ridicule.
You sound like a nazi, unless everybody submits to your secular fanaticism, they are worthy of abuse. You're the one obsessed with the beard, the OP is about bad manners. I never even mentioned the beard.
Duh!!
You are ignorant, Islam makes it obligatory on Muslim males to have a beard. Whether the Muslims you know of have beards is not the issue.
You seem to suggest I shouldn't have the right to keep a beard, but if I decide to have one, I should accept abuse.
I am not over-sensitive about ridicule, but if someone ridicules me, I will give them a good response, one which will shut them up or take them down a peg or two.
You must be a troll.
Would ZZ Top not respond if they were being ridiculed. I'm sure they'd eventually hit someone with their guitars! |
