| I've just recieved a new passport from Canada. My old Visa and stamps are in my old passport. Has anyone experienced this situation? Do I need to go to immigration to get the proper stamps, or is it ok just to show my old passport with the visa and stamps when I travel? |

| You must go to immigration with the old passport, the new passport, and your Alien Registration Card. I don't remember if you need a photo also but take one just in case. You complete a form there, hand the form to the agent, wait a couple of minutes, and you get your passports back with the appropriate stamps in the new passport. There is no fee for this. |

| Then you need to return to that Immigration Office and sort it out. They're supposed to stamp your new passport with the particulars of your visa (type, expiration date, and single- or multi-entry). |

No, I do not need anything stamped in my new passport. When I took it to Immigration, my visa type, expiration date, and other permissions were all written on my new ARC. They haven't stamped this kind of information in my passport in over a year and a half (my status has to be updated frequently.)
The only thing in my new passport is a re-entry permit.
Your immigration office may vary. |

Look at that re-entry permit. You'll see the following:

And written underneath that should be:

Looks to me like the new passport has what I said it should have. Now, care to guess what goes into a new passport for someone who doesn't want a re-entry permit?
You might also want to remember that regardless of the type of re-entry status of the original visa, once one extends it's automatically single entry. The key is to apply for and pay the additional fee for a multiple re-entry permit every year. |

Sorry, none of that is on my re-entry permit. I also took my new passport to Immigration on a different trip than the one in which I got the re-entry permit.
When I took my new passport to Immigration, they did nothing to it. They added all the details to my new ARC only.
Again, your immigration office likely runs on a completely different set of rules. But for others, if they do not put anything in your new passport, it's not necessarily a problem. |
