|
|
Hi all,
I will be in Korea soon. I just want to know what the down loading laws are like over there? Here in Canada if you download a show or movie worst case is one gets a slap on the wrist. I get open source or buy my software.
Basically I am wondering what the down loading etiquette is in Korea and how much trouble will I get in if I download.
Thank you very much |

| you probably wont get caught at all considering a company has to initiate a law suit. What company based in the USA or Canada is going to be monitoring people in SK. not many. Even less are going to have major legal offices here. Finally im not even sure that intellectual property is a strong concept here. I personally think you do not have mush to worry about. |

Just download away. I download god knows how many gigabytes each month.
Anyway, i don't think they really give a shit about copyrighted things here. They blatantly sell copied DVDs, games, bags and everything else in big shopping malls and street corners. It's not like they even try to hide it. It's bizarre actually having fixed location shops that specialise in copied movies or whatever. |

| Downloading as we speak. Well, that's the only source of English programming other than old rerun movies on this OCN channel on the local cable TV. There are also some TV websites that let you watch TV on your PC. |

My friends always have about 10 torrents going at any given time here at my work on their computers. They always tell me how amazing the download speed is! They've never had any problems. So I wouldn't worry... |

This is not North Korea or China.
I've heard that there might be a three strike law, but don't know if that's enforced. |

For those of you doing mass downloading, did you buy external drives in the U.S. and bring them to Korea or buy external drives in Korea? What's a good brand for external drives in Korea?
I have 3 2TB Western Digital Drives here in the U.S.., but they're all nearly full. |

| I brought drives which are nice as I bring time killing movies and things around with me for when I am just sitting in the office with nothing to do. Stuff like that though is easy and inexpensive to buy here. |
