Anyone know of any travel insurance that covers swine flu? I've found some sites originating in the USA that won't provide coverage in the USA (I'm in Korea but am American, and wanting to travel to see family).

There are some insurance companies that I've found that offer coverage, but include a small line at the bottom that voids any coverage in your country of residence. Seeing as I keep an address listing at my parents house in the USA, even though I live/reside in Korea, I'm worried they might use this as an "out" so they don't have to provide compensation later.

Anyone else overcome this somehow?

I imagine swine Flu may be a stickler. Let's say you travel to the USA, get exposed to the bug somewhere along the line, return to Korea, and come down with it. Which insurance company is responsible? Your travel insurance provider may balk because you actually got sick in Korea. Your Korean insurance may balk because you were infected outside Korea.

I've found a number of insurance companies addressing the issue, but none for those offered out of Korea.

The common flu kills more people than the swine flu. Try not to get caught up in the hype.

This is true for the present strain. If it mutates, that's a different matter.

Let's see what happens this (northern hemisphere) summer as the southern hemisphere endures its winter. If it's gonna mutate, it'll do so down south in the next few months.

Have there been many cases of swine flu in Korea?

FYI<, it HAS mutated! There are reports of it coming out of Brazil.

No word yet on how dangerous the mutation is.

I think I'm just going to buy AIG at the airport. My Samsung insurance will cover 40 percent of costs overseas, but I'd like a bit more coverage.

If it's dangerous, the Asians and their quarantines are gonna look like the smart ones. The Chinese are keeping people with A-H1N1 isolated for a week.

This bug could get nasty and make jet travel a hell of an interesting endeavor.

Update:

My friend, who is also traveling to the USA, called Jina at AIG insurance. Jina said that Americans ARE NOT COVERED by AIG insurance if the travel to the USA. They are to any other country but their home country.

Nice.

I can't find a SINGLE provider that will cover me in the USA. Am trying to see if my parents can help me out or not.

Bass
I wonder if you'd be so kind as to post contact information for AIG and the names of a couple of other travel insurance providers. I've tried searching the forum but came up empty. My school will probably help me but I'd like to give them a place to start.
Sorry if this is an imposition

I just got a memo from the Ulsan BoE that if I travel outside of Korea this summer, I'll have to visit the hospital immediately on return, and stay home from school for 7 (unpaid) days. So much for my trip to Beijing--I can't afford to lose the 500,000 I'd lose in the 7 day "quarantine."
