| I'm gearing up to change schools and timing has become an issue. Can my new employer begin the visa process while I am still in country on an E2 with another school? My guess is no, but is there some loop hole or way around this so that my new employer doesn't have to wait so long before I can start work? |

If you worked more than 9 months, then your current boss can sign a letter of release giving your exact last employment date. Your new boss must take responsibility of your new visa the next day.
If that is the case, then you don't need to jump through all the CRC, degree, ect... hoops.
If you worked less than 9 months, then you need to go threw the whole ordeal again.
Unforetunately, you cannot have 2 visa at once, and so immigration won't process a new one until the old one is cancelled. You can have all the documents ready to go, and ask your current boss to cancel your visa the day you are done. |

If you have not left Korea durning your current job, you do not need a new CBC to change jobs.
If you have been here less than 9 months you will need the other documents including your diploma and sealed transcripts and you will have to do a visa run. This does not require a letter of release.
If you have completed 9 months on your current job, you can transfer your visa to a new school with no visa run and no new CBC. |

Is there a 'break' between the two jobs?

Is it also true that if I want to transfer my visa to a public school they will not require a visa run? (I heard this is true no matter how long I was at the previous job. I've been in Korea over 2.5 years, but at my current job for only 5.5 months.) |

How can you check to make sure that your boss canceled your visa? I left with my letter of release a few months ago (sudden emergency), and my school said that they were taking the paperwork to immigration the next day.
I've now sent all my paperwork to a new school, but it seems like it's taking me a long time to get my visa issuance number. How can I make sure that my old visa was canceled, because I don't want to be denied for this one... |

I did exactly this last year. It was after the 9 month mark, no problems.
However, in my situation now, I am finishing a contract and expecting severance. I am willing to jump right into another year of teaching (meaning no trips home or anything). Can the new school carryover my visa (taking responsibility of my new or extended visa) even though that date is one day after the contract and visa extension date?

BabaNaja,
Your situation is significantly different. I would contact your second school and confirm they haven't encountered any problems with immigration. If need be, I would go to immigration if you are worried about time. Immigration won't issue a second visa number for you unless the first one was canceled.
Is there a recruiter involved in all this? If so, contact them as well to help you. |
