Absurdity at it's finest. Remember, these are probably the same people that wear leather shoes or sneakers, eat seafood (because it's not a land species), carry a leather hand bag (hopefully, just the female members) and use multiple products, pharmacueticals that had to be tested on animals to validate their safty.
It truely takes all kinds!! |

I've actually been royally [Mod Edit for filter dodging] by PETA as a kid. My dad was a fur coat store owner. He used to sell these fur Jackets making lots of coin. One day PETA starting making some noise, people stopped buying fur and after a while my dad was out of business. I had to move from my huge house into a hole and go to public school. If there is anyone that hates PETA it's me.
[Mod Edit for filter dodging] PETA. |

Ridiculous, really? All they're doing is sending the guy a gift. They didn't call him names or condemn his actions. All they said was, "We support compassion even for the most curious, smallest and least sympathetic animals."
I'm not a PETA person and I would definitely agree that most of the stuff they do for publicity is pretty weird but ALL they did was send the guy a gift. |

I say we stop eating meat from lower animals and start spit roasting PETA activists instead! |

I was a supporter of PETA back in high school -- even made an animal rights video that got me an A for the history fair. I think this is patently silly. I would support a different animal rights group possibly, one that focussed on mammals, but PETA is dead to me.
O the other hand, like the poster said, all they did was send the prez a gift. |

What's next? 'Roaches & rats? No more mousetraps! They tend to break the back of the mice! Fishing is out, too. Those hooks are sharp!
Seems like a cheap publicity stunt by Peta, to me. |

All PETA is is one huge publicity stunt. It's unfortunate, because by being so utterly ridiculous and taking their beliefs to the utmost extreme they turn many people off to the issue of animal rights. |

The thing is, with these extreme leftist nature groups, what they fundamentally appear to object to is man controlling nature. Things like dams, reservoirs, and evidently flyswats, are all highly offensive to these people. Even wind farms are unacceptable, in many cases.
The instinct at the very core of these beliefs is a kind of nature-worship - very similar to a religion - and a profound hatred of the human species and any and all what we would view as technological progress.
It's awfully important not to give them a flattering veneer of seriousness by any mainstream news coverage, because they are literally insane. |

You want absurdity? I'll give you absurdity! The #2 person (IIRC, that's her position) in PETA is a diabetic and uses insulin obtained from animals to stay alive. Yet, PETA is 100% adamant that any use of animals, including for medical purposes, is a big no-no. |

I don't support the organization anymore (for reasons I don't feel like getting into on a public message board), but I'm sure that's not accurate. I'm 99 percent sure Mary Beth Sweetland (a VP? I forget her title) takes synthetic insulin, but she acknowledges that the manufacturer engages in vivisection and that the product must have some animal-derived additives.
The point is that she's doing the best she can to live as vegan a life as possible as a Type 1 diabetic who really needs medication to stay alive. Vegans avoid animal products "as far as possible and practical," but sometimes there is no vegan choice. Drug companies are required by law to vivisect animals, and we can oppose this even though it's not always possible to boycott their products.
ETA: I couldn't find the original link to the article she wrote defending her choice not to reject all medication, but she does say in this article that she uses synthetic insulin. |

I disagree. I believe that if they are true to their movement then they should take only organic herbal cures and/or pray and expect to be healed through faith. Most of them value animals over humans as it is. What would make them exempt from their own rule? |
