I'm sorry, but that headline is hilarious. It conjures up images of Yeti, Sasquash, Pizza the Hut... Or, profusely sweating cast members of The King of Queens.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but many Koreans aren't exactly skinny, so I'm guessing you'd have to be obese for them to draw attention to your condition.

C'mon, nobody likes a fatty back home either, wherever home may be (except for maybe Australia, which, according to Glamour Magazine's website, collectively prefers a size 14 woman to a size 2 skinnie minnie), but the rest of the world is simply socially evolved enough to keep their mouths shut in the presence of tubby, opting instead to talk shit behind his back in order to spare his feelings. They're also civilized enough to not discriminate based on looks in the workplace, or at least pretend not to.

I just can't wait to see Korea's reaction to the obesity epidemic when it hits home. Surely they will blame it on foreigners, and not all the fat and sugar they inhale daily.

About that headline... the "news" here has absolutely NO credibility.

Hate me if you want, but I have little respect for people who become extensively obese.
Sure it happens and I don�t put obese people in some sub-human category, yet there is nothing and no one to blame but the individual if they stay that way.

I am a disabled veteran who lost the ability to run, dance, or even walk a long distance yet I keep myself much slimmer than most of the American population who have no handicap whatsoever. I got big and fat after my injury but I chose to do so and I chose to lose the weight later.
When did being in a wheelchair become a choice? Many of my disabled friends who have no choice about being in a wheelchair keep themselves thin. Now I have to listen to people defend the right to be fat and how it�s a disability. I tell you now these people have no idea what a disability is.

Obesity is not a disease it is a choice.

Ugliness is the sole exclusivity of the waygook! None of those weedy, four eyed little men with their spock pixie hair are ugly - they are the prime specimen of manhood aren't they?

Facts are - If the Koreans were exposed to a different kind of white man - Italians, Spaniards, Greeks, Argentinians, the Portuguese, the French - they would have a different view about how a waygook looks - no chance of them getting an E2 visa though!

I really hate when people criticize someone's ability as an English teacher over typos and trivial errors especially when they don't check for their own mistakes.

Over the years in Korea I have noticed an increase in prejudice. You would think the more teachers that are here, the more exposure to other cultures they would recieve that their tollerance and acceptance would increase.

I love in a place where you can't see people's faces, everyone acts like they are gorgous Hollywood actors, too good to talk to fat people. If your looks are so radiant and majestic, why not go into modeling you shallow prix. People are fat for a number of reasons, genetics, diet, metabolism rates; some of us are born with the body god/science gave us. Not all fat people go around eating twinkies and donuts by the carton like some of you people always suggest. Many fat people hardly eat at all, but their metabolic rates are so low that they affectively shut down, gaining more weight. If you want to call us fat, fine but say it to our faces, not being an internet gansta talking smack behind a keyboard. Maybe you won't be so pretty anymore afterwards.

I'm not an uggo, I'm fat, but hey I don't have to pretend to be something I'm not. I gained a bunch of weight during my last job and didn't take care of myself. I came here to get more active and make a life style change. I didn't go to prom, prom is for losers who peak in high school, living in trailers thinking about how if they caught that one ball, they could have went to state.

I never suggested going into Korean modeling, I just think its lame how people think they are so much better than anyone else behind the keyboard. Its bad enough that the Koreans don't think so highly of the foreign community, so why spread the hate even more? Expats should stick together, not squabble over petty differences.

kiwiduncan thanks for that translation. i think this got way off topic as most people interpreted it as a "physical ugly" and not as in "ugly behavior" which is what the article was about. its an honest mistake, koreans dont usually use "ugly" to describe behavior and it naturally could throw some people off.

except for the midleading title, i cant say theres much i disagree with about the article itself. those were a couple of douches and probably shouldnt be here in the first place. trying to run them out of the country is something id probably help IF all that was said was true.


now, about the fat people... im sorry. i know there r some people with honest to god medical conditions that keep them from getting to a healthy weight, but 95% of the people that say that r just using it for an excuse. i used to be really over weight and after years of hard work, have finally gotten myself down to what would be considered a "healthy weight" in america (though in korea, im still considered obese, haha)

and i find it very hard to respect people that eat pizza and junk food, sit on there rump, never see the inside of a gym, and expect to be considered as attractive as those that work realllly hard at it. lets face it, most guys would rather date a thin girl with an ugly face, than a 250 pounder with a doll face.

it-takes-hard work-and-effort to lose weight and anyone who doesnt is lazy. i dont have to show a person respect that doesnt respect themselves enough to keep their weight down.
