| i know he's a hypocrite, and i know the voters of south carolina have a right to know where their governor disappeared to for four days, but it makes me very uncomfortable having this, and other similar "moral failings" of politicians, blared full blast from the MSM. the glee everyone seems to take in it. |

Well, normally my schadenfreude would be much greater in a case like this, but I get the sense he was really smitten with this woman. I guess what I mean is it seems more like a matter of the heart, which in turn made him lose his head. And I have been down that road myself. Damn you women!!!!!!
He will pay a heavy political price. |

People should have listened to the Republicans a couple of months ago. They said when Iowa and that New England state (NH or Vt--never could remember which was which) legalized gay marriage, that normal, heterosexual, traditional, opposite marriage would be undermined. This past week has clearly demonstrated the truth of that claim. First the Nevada senator and now the gov of South Carolina.

He's not much of a hypocrite. He wasn't much of a social conservative, more a fiscal and economic one. The again, he did vote to impeach Clinton, so eh, never mind.
Nevertheless, I feel bad for the guy. And I still think he's better than most politicians. At least he stands up for what he believes in (once again, fiscal conservatism) unlike most politicians. I might not agree with him most of the time, but I respect him for that. |

As a man, I have a lot of empathy for him. Yes, he hurt his wife and children, and that's terrible, but at the same time his "failing" here was driven by emotions pretty basic to all of us, and even if he went about things in a bad way (really, a ridiculous way), how he felt is understandable.
As a politician, he's just another example of how the Social Conservatism of the Repulican Party is preached but often not practiced. Republicans fighting for things like "the sanctity of marriage" when this sort of thing is happening within their party is just silly. When Social Conservatives become a less dysfunctional lot, perhaps they can begin making their case for mandating morality to the majority. |

Yeah, that's just it.
It's the constant 'we are fiscal conservatives and against spending,' and 'we are for the sanctity of marriage'...and yet, case after case after case keep occuring that says the WORDS don't correspond with the ACTIONS, in fact, over and over, the words and actions are often polar opposites.
Within the Republican and Conservative movements, HYPOCRISY is a way too common theme.

I think what sickens me most is that fact he told the news agencies he was crying for 5 days in Argentina...which implies he is a repentent sinner, as if he was tempted, but fighting it. That is the impression.
However, more likely, he was crying that he got busted AGAIN by his wife, and there was no way he could 'sneak' back into the office from Argentina to pretend like 'everything was cool'.
Most of all, he was yet another one of the Republican politicians with a very wealthy wife that he married into...and will be losing that wealth and his current job and lifestyle - i.e. flying down to Argentina to hookup with chicks for a week on SC taxpayer money, etc. |

Marry your boyfriend if you like, but I don't want to pay for your healthcare. Traditional marriage is the only type of marriage. |

I don't blame him for going to Argentina to fool around with his girlfriend. Argentina has some very beautiful women and there's nothing wrong with being an international pimp. 
But this Sanford guy is the very type of "conservative" religious person that condemns others for their sexual lifestyles when he's a human being with sexual wants too. |
