Has anyone themselves or anyone they know shipped an automobile to Korea?
What did it cost, entail? |

I shipped my '08 Enzo to Busan from Vladivostock and it cost W22,300,100 with insurance. It entailed a lot of paperwork. |

We shipped a 2005 BMW M3 convertible from LA to Busan for $1985. It took about 2 months ( 3-4 weeks waiting for container space and another month for the voyage). It was much easier and cheaper to ship the car to Busan than Incheon.
Be warned though - lots of paperwork and 2 weeks for arrival/customs inspections and you have to pay various import/duty taxes. Still much much cheaper than buying a BMW in Korea! |

What if I bought a motorcycle over here and wanted to ship it to Seattle, WA? Would that be about the same? |

Was that $1985 just for the shipping or did that also include the import/duty taxes? If not, how much were the taxes? |

Probably just shipping. I believe tax is around 35% of KBB value. It's also based on the size of the engine. There's a section in the Korea customs website. I'll see if I can find it and post it here. You can also try going through an agent who can handle all the paperwork and logistics for you.
I was thinking of shipping my 2007 911 turbo here, but after all the charges and mods to comply with local emissions I realized I'm better off leaving it back home (quoted about 31K USD from an import agent). |

Dang. How much of an influence does engine size have? I was hoping to ship something with a smaller 6 cylinder like a Cayman S over, but the 911 has a similar sized engine. As I understand it, registration fees are also based on engine size.
Nice car, BTW, chemicalblur. What would you do with a 911 Turbo in Korea though? I didn't see many areas where you could let her rip, not to mention all those pesky cameras. I raced a 09 M3 the other day, but I don't think you can have that kind of fun on Korean roads though. |

22 million Won!?!?!?
I don't think so.....typo????? I does not cost 22 million won to ship a car around the world twice! It's 2 grand from LA to korea and that's a lot further than the above!
Here's a fact.....it cost 13K U.S. to ship a $450.000.00 new MCI bus from LA to korea....the import taxes....were another story. |

Dude, I think cruisemonkey was just joking. I don't know many English teachers cruising around in a $1,000,000 Ferrari Enzo. |

Aqua,
How much $$$ do you figure you saved by importing directly from the US? |

And about how much would that be, if you have any idea? That's cool that they fly it...I had no idea. |

I wouldn't recommend even attempting that... I bought a motorcycle (Royal Enfield) in India a few years ago and shipped it back to the US.
Long story short - customs wouldn't release it... and they apparently put it in the crusher.
The US has pretty tight controls on importing vehicles - unless your a corporation it's nearly impossible. |

My bf said he saved 19 million won by importing his M3 (this is after figuring in the cost of tax and customs charges etc) |
