Hey all. I resigned with my school for an extra 3 months. These 3 months are up on July 15th. When I resigned, I was issued another year long visa. I plan on staying around here and looking for a job. When the 15th arrives, can I extend my visa online for one month? If not, how long can I stay before I do a visa run? Will I need to bring anything with me to the airport when I travel to Japan? I am Canadian if that makes a difference as well. Thanks for the help! |

Too many questions with your post.
I'll start with this. I don't believe you got another year on your visa when your contract only gave you 3 extra months. Please clarify this point before we continue on to the other logical potholes. |

How can I convince you that my boss and I had a verbal agreement that I would work for another 3 months. We were both under the assumption that you couldn't get a 3 month e-2 visa so she just renewed my contract for a year. |

Then you didn't resign for 3 months. You resigned for 12 months!!!
In this case, your employer is supposed to report you no longer working to immigration. Your visa probably ends right then and there, and then you have something like a month (or maybe it is 2 weeks) to leave the country.
It is no longer a matter between you and the school, and you are now on a tourist visa. There is no extending possible, nor is it needed, since you still have 9 months on the current visa. You can possibly transfer location if you get another school before the 15th. You could continue working and find a school, and then transfer location. That's what I did.
If it comes to a complete end, you can stay in Korea for 1 more month, then you have to leave. I assume a trip to Japan is just for traveling? You aren't getting another E-2 visa?
* Make sure you confirm anything anyone says with immigration before making a final decision. |

I think you could have gotten much more constructive advice if you would have posted this here one month earlier. You're running out of time now, and some loose ends need to be tied up pretty fast. One is the notice. Must you give one? Have you given it? If you must and have not given it, I think you should look over your contract to see what kind of notice is required. It's probably one month. If it is, you should give that now in writing (for CYA's sake) and go another two weeks at the job. A promise is a promise. Just before the one month is up, you'll need to get a letter of release. Take that to immy at the end and get an exit order. You'll then have two weeks to leave, but I bet even then you can get a departure extension. That will give you a total of six weeks to find a job. I could be wrong on the departure extension, though. I know one can get it right when a visa is expiring, but I don't know for sure if you can get one right when an exit order is expiring. |

To confrim one point- you can stay one extra MONTH at the end of you E-2 visa? I was told just one more day of a grace period. Well, actually I got that from one immigration office, and a completely OTHER story from another one.... so does it depend on what immigration office you're based around?
Boy, so many headaches.... I'm still waiting on my copy of "E2's For Dummies" in the mail from amazon.com..... but something tells THAT'S stuck getting the Import fee processed... |

Just as one cannot extend an extension, one cannot extend an exit order (an exit order is, in essence, an extension).
OP,
Your best bet is to have your boss cancel your visa as of July 15th and get a 14-day exit order. If you can find another job before July 29... fine, do a visa run. If not, on or before July 29th, leave K-land (one of the hydrofoils from Busan to Fukuoka is probably the least expensive way) then re-enter K-land on a tourist visa. |

This is the best advice if you can't extend the exit order. However, I will say that I was able to extend an E-2 another year, plus an additional one month departure extension. It was valid for 25 months altogether. |

You can stay up to an extra 30 days on a departure extension. You need your plane ticket in hand or uploaded in a jpg file to show to immy. You won't be able to work during the departure extension. I asked for the full 30 days and was granted that. My E-2 was valid for a total of 25 months, with 24 working months. |

Yes... I was unclear. One can extend the period of sojourn for the purpose of work as many times as one has consecutive contracts. One cannot extend an extension of the period of sojourn for non-work purposes (or an exit order). |
